Another vote for Bore Tech Eliminator with plastic brushes and patches for copper and carbon.

But lead fouling still requires Chor Boy wrapped in a bronze brush. Don’t use Bore Tech with this technique as it will quickly dissolve the brush. Use CLP with the Chor Boy and the lead will be removed after 5 or 6 passes.

They outlast bronze brushes and in concert w/Tactical Advantage make short work of both copper and powder fouling in one of my problem rifles as described below.
Sounds like some good stuff, had never heard of it. Might be worth a try.

I like this part:

  • Odorless, relatively safe and easy to use
  • Can’t gum or leave behind solids that render the firearm useless
  • Contains no acid and no ammonia

Bore Tech sounds like an excellent cleaner. Will put it on my order list & give it a try.
Sounds very much like TA. Only warnings on TA are: Do Not Ingest, Keep out of reach of children, flush with water if you get in eyes, so sounds much like BT in that regard, as does its cleaning ability. I think I detect a very slight ammonia odor, but had to be very close to bottle. Someone else would be a better judge of that, as 20 years in a petro chemical plant in which main products were various acids has not been kind to my olfactory abilities.

I found this article interesting and may shorten my soaking times to determine if the overnight soaking is necessary:

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE”
THE VERY FIRST PRODUCT TO ANSWER THE PROBLEMS OF FOULED TACTICAL AR PLATFORMS

The Story Behind “Tactical Advantage”

I must admit that the idea for “Tactical Advantage” was not mine. We do business with a military contractor who will remain nameless for obvious reasons. They use our “Patch-Out”and “Wipe-Out” on their bolt action sniper rifles. The use “Patch-Out” in the field. Primarily because of airline restrictions not allowing aerosols to be transported in aircraft. “Wipe-Out” is used at the local ranges and posts. Well, I got a call from their big Kahuna, asking if we could help with a serious problem they were Having with their M-4’s and M-16’s. These guns after a protracted firefight were not operating in full-auto mode. They would only function in semi-auto mode. This put most of the teams at risk, since full-auto mode is used for supressing, or cover fire. He went on to tell me that it was taking 4 hours to get these guns , “military grade” clean. They were literally grinding out the inside of the bolt carrier with a drill and a 50 caliber brush.

The big Kahuna said “ Can you make us a cleaner that will remove copper, carbon, and powder fouling from the bore, but can also clean up the bolt carrier and the gas system ?”

We went to work and 6 months later w announced “Tactical Advantage”. It is used like a conventional bore cleaner straight out of the bottle. And it can be diluted with tap water to a 30% or a 40% solution and then sprayed or dripped on the bolt and gas system. Let it stand for 10 to 20 minutes and wipe dry. Oil the part if it is part of the bolt.

Needless to say the military contractor is delirious with the product. He went on to tell me this morning that “Tactical Advantage” is keeping rifles on the firing line that would have been scrapped in the past. As of today there have been no M-4’s or M-16’s in his group that have been trashed. Last year there were several hundred.

This is the only cleaner ever developed to address the problems associated with the Stoner AR platform.

Cleans the bore, bolt carrier, bolt, gas tube etc.

Sharp Shoot R™ Precision Products® announces a great new product that is the first product dedicated solely for the problems faced by the tactical shooter. Wipe-Out “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™” which is to be used as a conventional non-aerosol for special use with firearms that are used in tactical applications. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE is an answer to specific problems, where the shooter has need for a very carbon aggressive bore cleaner that will also remove copper fouling as well as powder fouling with a minimum of effort. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ like other “Wipe-Out ™ products is 100% brushless. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ has a dual use for cleaning tactical firearms.

1. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is a brushless bore cleaner.

2. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ When mixed with water on a 50/50 ratio and sprayed on bolt carriers and bolts will dissolve carbon on contact.

This exciting new product is easier to use and is considerably less messy, and is totally odorless. It has no complicated method of application. You simply put it on a patch or a mop and swab it thru the barrel, or spray it on a part you wish to clean.. No Muss No Fuss !

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ has been designed to be a maximum strength product. In our testing we found that “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ was capable of dissolving more fouling faster than any product currently on the market.

Methods of use: specifically for M-16’s, AR-15’s M4’s MP5’s HK91’s HK 93’s etc.

How to Use Tactical Advantage:
#1. A conventional bore cleaner that is applied to a patch, a nylon brush, or mop and allowed to soak while it dissolves the fouling left in the barrel. We prefer a nylon brush which will hold more chemical. Simply load the brush, push it in once and pull it out.

#2 A Pre- Soak Patch used before using WIPE-OUT “ACCELERATOR“™ and “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ will loosen powder fouling and speed the dissolving of copper and carbon. You This method will maximize the removal of fouling in the shortest possible time.

#3 Use “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ as a barrel swab in between relays or between shot strings to remove powder fouling and begin the job of dissolving carbon and copper. This method is a quick solution that will ensure the cleaning job you do when you have more time will be positive and complete. Many shooters need a product that will clean in the shortest time possible because they have severe time constraints. The body of competitive shooters falls in to this group because they all have minimal amounts of time to clean their firearms between relays. Additionally during break-in of a barrel it is normal to clean the barrel every few shots for at least the first 100 to 150 rounds. Or you may be a high volume shooter , who shoots a large number of rounds before being forced to clean due to the degradation of accuracy. In these particular situations a faster method of cleaning is necessary.

#4 Mix “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ in a 50/50 ratio and place in a spray bottle. Spray dirty parts fouled with powder residue and carbon. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™will remove this fouling on contact. (Use this same method for muzzle brakes and suppressors)

With the breach open apply into the barrel by means of a patch or nylon brush which has been wetted with

the solution. Place the firearm down horizontally on the bench. Wait for 15 to 20 minutes. Put a clean cotton patch on a good jag and push through the bore. The use of a bore brush to scrub is not necessary, ever. Simple and easy with no complication.

While this product has been designed to be totally brushless, admittedly there are those who still wish to use a brush. If the user will take two strokes through the bore with a nylon brush “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ will produce a luxurious thick lather. Allow it to set as per original instructions for faster results.

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is meant to be used by itself as a cleaner, or in combination with ACCELERATOR™ .

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is as safe to use as WIPE-OUT™ and in no manner compromises the safe use of either product.

Benefits of ‘TACTICAL ADVANTAGE’ ™ -WIPE-OUT™ Brushless Bore Cleaner©

“TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ it self is a revolutionary new product that is the only product of it’s type specifically designed for the problems of cleaning encountered by the tactical shooter.

Removal of metal fouling and carbon from the bore can rejuvenate and restore accuracy to and badly fouled firearm. Heavy amounts of brushing to the bore of a firearm can produce damage and unnecessary wear. New “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ and WIPE-OUT ACCELERATOR™ were formulated to utilize technology in the safe removal of all types of fouling from the barrel faster, and more efficiently…….and without brushing.

The criteria for this new product “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ were a tough group to satisfy individually let alone collectively. Sharp Shoot r Precision Inc. developed this product with the aid and consultation of competitive shooters, gunsmiths, barrel makers, and manufacturers within the firearms industry, who specifically have tactical firearms as their primary focus. The resulting research and development team produced a revolutionary new type catalyst to enhance the great properties of “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ -WIPE-OUT™ Brushless Bore Cleaner©:

I. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ will dissolve copper , bronze, cupro-nickel, brass fouling in the bore twice as fast and in half the time without brushing.

II. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ will protect all metal parts including the bore against corrosion & rust.

III. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is totally safe for all steels (both stainless and carbon)and all metal plating( including chrome lined barrels).

IV. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is harmless to modern gunstock finishes on wood , carbon fiber, or fiberglas. (it is not for use on shellac, varnish or oil)

V. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ dissolves carbon without brushing

VI. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ dissolves smokeless powder fouling, and primer fouling, both corrosive and non-corrosive..

VII. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ has color indicators show the presence of metal fouling, powder fouling and carbon. (Metal fouling is navy blue, Powder fouling is grey or black, Carbon is tan or brown.)

VIII. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is odorless, relatively safe and easy to use.

IX. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ cannot gum or leave behind solids that render the firearm useless.

X. “TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ contains NO ACID and NO AMMONIA.

TACTICAL ADVANTAGE” ™ is available in a 8 ounce plastic bottle with a flip top lid. This bottle is capable of cleaning

the amount of firearms that can be cleaned with 2 cans of WIPE-OUT™. Manufactured and sold by, Sharp Shoot R.

Been shooting and cleaning (mostly rifles) for a long time and was convinced that I was getting them clean until I looked at a couple of my "clean" rifles with a bore scope. :what: White patches do not equate clean barrels.

I clean my rifles after every outing, whether only one round was fired or after a weekend match of up to 350 rounds or more. Have known for a long time that most solvents are better at removing either powder or copper, but not equally effective on both.

Soaking overnight(s) with Hoppe's Benchrest was as close as I ever got to a one solvent procedure up until BS (Bore Scope), but had more recently added Wipeout or Gunslick Foam to pick us a bit more copper after getting a couple of blue patches after cleaning w/straight Benchrest. The Benchrest was doing a great job of getting out powder/carbon and (sometimes repeated) overnight soaking got most of the copper.

After BS found remaining copper, ran a fairly comprehensive test on a pet copper magnet with a dozen products and settled on Tactical Advantage as the most effective single product on both carbon & copper of those I tested.

This thread has piqued my interest in Bore Tech and begs a
couple of questions: Looking @ Midway I see several Bore Tech products:
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2...4-carbon-remover-bore-cleaning-solvent-liquid
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2...2-copper-remover-bore-cleaning-solvent-liquid
From above link, it appears that they have one carbon and one copper solvent.

But if you enter Bore Tech Eliminator, a third product comes up as a copper solvent with no claims to carbon removal??
https://ads.midwayusa.com/product/225250/bore-tech-eliminator-bore-cleaning-solvent-liquid

Which are you all using and how do you determine if bore is clean?

I've only used Bore Tech Eliminator.

I don't have a bore scope. All I know is that when I first used it in my hunting rifle, I squirted the stuff into the chamber to soak the bore and a river of blue flowed out the muzzle. It took maybe 3 or 4 wet patches until the blue color was gone. I don't want to name the solvent I was using previously, but it was ammonia based.

Now when I clean after maybe 10 shots, there's blue and carbon on the first wet patch. Two wet patches later and there'e almost no color.

In my experience a nylon brush will not even remove carbon fouling from a barrel. Much less copper or lead fouling. I expect my bore cleaners to dissolve my phosphor bronze wire bore brushes over time. If these bore cleaners don't dissolve them something isn't working right.

Cleaning has to be quick, simple, and thorough. If not the time for cleaning takes away from my reloading and shooting time.

"Clean enough" is a good term. My white patches do not end up being as pure as the driven snow when I am done but rather a light shade of gray. Over many ten's of thousands of rounds my barrels have neither swollen shut from buildup nor has accuracy suffered. Rifle or pistol.

I've used both Bore Tech Eliminator and Cu+2, and can't tell the difference. From the description on their web site Eliminator is a mixture of carbon and copper solvents .

I generally start my cleaning regimen with a couple of doses of Slip 2000 Carbon Killer and some vigorous bronze brushing. I think that all or most of the carbon fouling is gone by the time I get to the copper solvents.

I do brush with a nylon brush for the first Bore Tech application and then just apply with wet patches thereafter. It takes about 3 to 5 repititions before I'm satisfied.

Well, as an update I have ordered some Losso Nylon brushes from Brownells this morning. I will give them a work out in the next couple of weeks and see how it goes. I found a can of Hoppes Elite foam that I had forgotten about so I think on my first pass with the brushes I will give that a try and see how it works. I do intend to try the Eliminator in the future.

Sounds like my Hoppe's Benchrest/Wypeout regimen before I discovered the iosso brushes and Tactical Advantage. IIRC TA directions on bottle recommended application w/patch, but I found that the stiff nylon brush seemed to hold a bit more solvent and just a few strokes seemed to speed up the process considerably.

I have a couple of real copper magnets and if really fouled I sometimes let first application soak a while and repeat. (see #23 above). Sounds like the Bore Tech Eliminator might be just as good as TA; plan to give that a try soon.

I used to use TM Solution for carbon, Eliminator for copper, if a barrel was really fouled. TM is discontinued, Butches for regular cleaning.

So I have been using Butches. I started with Shooters Choice, then Butches got popular, and I of course tried it, but I am not sure there is a nickles worth of difference between them.

For a long time now I have used Gunzilla for pistol barrels, when they get cleaned, which isn't often. Most of my pistol barrel cleaning is from buying a used gun. Never tried it in a rifle.

I like the idea of new non toxic cleaners without ammonia. I have a couple of 6MM Iosso nylon brushes and some Tactical Advantage headed my way.

I think you'll like that combo. I had not read this review before, but it's pretty impressive:

I do believe the nylon brush does cause the TA to foam a bit and assist in breaking down the copper, as alluded to in above link and the iosso brushes are stiffer than most others I have used.

I use Eliminator; melts the copper wash and the carbon fouling into a liquid. If I remember correctly when I first ordered Eliminator, it was described as effectively cleaning carbon, lead and copper - it performs as advertised for me.
I let the bore soak for about 10 minutes then about 5 strokes with a caliber appropriate nylon brush, squeaky clean. The Eliminator is a tad more expensive than the ammonia based product but very well worth it to me. One note of caution that I will share, Eliminator has dulled my wood stock finish where it has made contact; the dull will rub out with an oily rag; I now simply avoid contact altogether. Overall, this stuff works great.

Makes sense, just like rubbing our hands together makes soap foam up and pick up/carry away crud. Works much 10x better when you get it all foamed up.

I use nylon brushes all the time. More than any other cleaning brushes.

To clean actions, magazines, boltways, firing pin channels, pin holes, etc. etc. etc. Carry a bottle brush in the bag to keep the bolt action clean in dusty ranges, and have a fridge coil cleaning brush that is great for rifle magazines, tubular actions (hard to get into the side) like HK rifles.

But for the bore? No. Seems pointless.

I just discovered. KG-12 Copper Solvent. Apply it to the inside of the barrel and let set for 2 minutes. Then scrub with nylon brush 5-6 strokes and it comes out squeaky clean. I'm 72 years old and have used every combo imaginable. This works better than anything I've used in the past.

My Tactical Advantage came today, brushes should be here soon. Maybe I could clean my old Mini 14 barrel with it. It hasn't been cleaned thoroughly in awhile.
