This has been my favorite final step in cleaning my bangenmachers. Guns for those who don't speak German (ahem.. ;))
Smells like a spice to me, (clove?) like spice cookies baking, and has protected my guns from Fla weather for decades.

I see a thread about silicone gun cloths, was wondering about your favorite protectant. A shooting buddy uses the same stuff he uses on his fishing reels. Hey, whatever works!

Yup. Been using it since the 70s. Great stuff and a little goes a long way. It protects the metal but I've never had it hurt plasticks or wood finishes. I keep cut up Tshirt pieces sprayed with it in zip lock bags for wipes.

Love the stuff. First time seeing it was the grandfather of an ex-fiance used it to clean some of the firearms he had. When he had a good sized collection, he would buy G96, 6 cans at a time. He gave me a can to try out on my own firearms. The only thing I don't like about G96, is not many gun stores in my area carry it, so I use it sparingly. I even really like the smell, as I cannot stand the odor of Hoppes solvent.

Yes it's not common to find. It used to be carried in some dept stores in the 70,80s but none I've seen today. I,m lucky a old shop still carries it in large quantities and sells it for less than I can find it anywhere including online. Maybe he,s brewing . Lol Great stuff and aftershave worthy.

Interesting thread..... I'm a relative newcomer to G96; first tried it a year or so ago when it was recommended to me. So far I like it. One place around here that carried it has gone out of business but there's at least one more I know of that has it. Nice to see positive feedback on it. Might just buy another can of it when this one's gone.

Good stuff.

I inherited a Winchester Model 12 Takedown Model that was bone dry. It was so dry that I had a friend smack the barrel hard repeatedly with his hand while I held onto the receiver to get the barrel to turn so I could remove it. After we finally got it apart I treated the barrel and receiver with three separate treatments of G96. Gun now come apart easily.

Sounds like good stuff. I was trying to find someone that carries it near Minneapolis but no luck so far. Of course I can get it online. Anyone care to share a local source?

Great product. Have used it since late '60's. Used for long term storage and never had a problem although it will gum up a bit. The smell always reminds me of bubble gum.

How similar to B Casey Barricade?
That's my final wipe, I describe it as ArmorAll for firearms

Good, old tech CLP. Started using it in the 70s.

Hard to find? Order on Amazon.

Though it’s not made anymore, that I can find, I always liked B-Cs “Sheath”. It did a great job on protecting metal, and I loved the smell. I didn’t mind getting any on me, and having the smell linger around for a couple more hours. Would’ve made a great perfume, but I never was able to convince a girlfriend to wear any.
