AR-10 questions...

Putting a bullet where it needs to go is the key - adding horsepower doesn’t fix poor bullet placement. It really doesn’t take that much to kill deer or even elk, so hitting the target is the challenge, not killing the game when it gets there.

In the context of an LFAR, I know I have spent a lot more than just $700 on my long range LFAR’s, and I know I have bought and built bolt rifles which will shoot smaller for 1/2-1/3 the cost of the LFAR’s. As versatile as the AR platform can be, it’s more expensive, heavier, and less precise than a stick shift. Can’t have it all.

Agreed ! Just wanted him to utilize the lower he bought, wisely.

Agreed, a standard weight AR10 would not be my first choice to hump up and down Idaho wilderness area, but if one takes their time and money to build a lightweight one then it's a consideration. But a simple bolt action is functional and lightweight.

Fully automatic weapons!!!! some kind of sportsmen out there in Idaho! LMFAO!!! Load up a drum mag, mow em down!!

Yeah, PSA was founded well after the registry was closed. The OP likely didn’t get a FA AR10 lower from them last year.

Even if he had the proper FFL and SOT it’s against the law there to hunt with FA.

Good God I'm glad I read that wrong!!! Still never seen unlimited ammo in a gun however...

What is that in reference to? I seem to be missing parts of the thread or something.

If it's about the ammo, post 17. Most states limit the amount of ammo you can have in your gun, MI is 5 rounds. I was assuming...

I don’t know the laws in most States but the OP’s home State, WA, removed the 5 round limit years ago, the State he is planning to hunt in, Idaho, doesn’t have any either or my State TX. In your State you would want a blocked mag.

Only capacity limit at know of across the board is 3 shot shells for migratory birds per https://www.fws.gov/le/pdf/50_CFR_20.pdf

Sure you can build both.

If you want to get or build an 18 inch AR-10, there is a million compelling reasons to do so. Merica.

I just acquired an Aero Precision M5 with a 16 inch barrel and mid-length gas system. I bought it used because I got a good price on the rifle with a Trijicon TA-11J ACOG on it. It probably weighs in the 9 pound range empty, with the optic, and easily holds 2 MOA from field positions with Federal and Winchester M80 ball. I plan on hunting with it this fall, but consider it more of a quarter mile rifle than a half mile rifle. I still find plenty of use for it despite the fact it isn't a sub MOA half mile rifle.

If I were you I would build the AR-10, but take one of the bolt guns for the hunt.

since it's a Lower, i would but a...
PSA 12.5 upper on it with a Brace and call it a pistol since the restrictions says anything about a pistol, only rim-fire and muzzle-loaders

or..... get the 18'' version with the kit with a brace and still use it as a pistol first then you can go rifle if you want to later. (DO NOT BUILD IT AS A RIFLE FIRST THEN GO PISTOL)
