the slight difference in mag wells

what does that difference do? the 229 mag will not go into the 226 magwell and if it did it would not lock in, but the 226 mag will go in and lock into the 229, they have functioned flawlessly in the 229 on the range too

what about carrying them?
It's a wash between them I carry both in OWB pancakes, Good holsters & good belt , just no difference on my hip, I have also had both in an AIWB holster all day moving, driving sitting....normal daily grind , both work for me in this position too

how do they shoot?
like all clasic P- series Sigs, better than I do and they handle the 40/357 recoil like champs too

Now speaking of shooting between the 2 the 229 just has the better trigger hands down, it is very smooth through the DA stroke and the SA is superb and it has the SRT so the 226 isn't in the same game as the 229 is, butit is a good stock Sig trigger, it's not draggy or crunchy it moves smoothly in DA and breaks cleanly in SA it just seems to lack a little something that my 229 has it's one of those hard to explain feel things that most others picking them up and shooting then wouldn't notice unless they are really shooters, a minimal thing but it's there.

which is better ? lol hmmmm2.gif for me, the 229 just checks everything a little bit better but once again it's a marginal difference and a feel thing, I will put a spring kit and a SRT in the P226 when I get the chance and that should close the gap in the trigger feel between the 2 and make sure it runs smoothly into the future .
I have about $650 in the 229 and I got a smoking deal on the 226, it had .40 and .357 barrels 7 mags and the case for $609.99 out the door so I grabbed it took it with me lol

If I could only have one of them it would be the P229 but I'm on of those guys lucky enough to own them both banana.gif banana.gif

Both good pistols. The P229 feels a little better in my hand and I prefer the balance to that of the P226. I shoot 9 mm Luger, .40 S&W, and 357 SIG through both of my P229s, depending on my mood.

The P229 pictured has the "legacy" slide with the half step that runs all the way to the rear of the slide, cocking serrations that run only half way up the side of the slide, and a short extractor. Newer P229s have a longer extractor, and cocking serrations that run all the way up the rear of the slide with a step that ends at the rear of the ejection port. I have P229 slides of both types. They both work fine.

I had P226's and P229's in 357SIG. Both guns shot great, but I always prefered the 226's, as the felt better in my hand. The P229's are pudgy things. :)

SIG always had a weird idea as to what was supposed to be "compact" back then, and there was really little difference in size between them. None that would make any difference in carrying them.

Had a number of P220's too, and have that same opinion of them as well.

One thing nice with them all though, you dont need to buy a bunch of holsters, as they all will pretty much fit in the same one, especially if you buy the "R" holsters.

Whats an "SRT? Short reset trigger? Also where did you find the extra imogie things in post #5?

Years ago I shot a Sheriffs deputy's 226 at the range and it was one sweet shooting gun. I shot a really tight group right on center at 25 yards. Then handed him his gun and said "your turn". He declined and said he had to go to the 15 yard range and practice with his patrol shotgun. I think he didn't want to shoot against me.:D

226 for me. Grip fits my hands better with the slightly longer surface and they are both functionally the same size for concealment with my setup, and the same weight more or less.

Plus, 18 round Mec gar mags with a 20 rounder on a Neomag is a pretty good setup.

Add a SAO Legion frame and we are really cooking!

Yes, SRT stands for short reset trigger, and it has nothing to do with a trigger per se. At least not what most of us think off. There is no trigger in an SRT kit. The kit consists of a modified sear and safety lever, and no trigger. The modified sear dramatically reduces the reset distance for the single action trigger pull.

SIG does make a "short trigger" or "reduced reach trigger" for the P22X series that is actually a trigger. The intent is to reduce the trigger reach. Some models of SIGs come with both the SRT and the short trigger stock.

The double stack Sigs are slightly too fat for my hands. When I grip a double stack Sig I have to rotate my shooting hand around the grip to get my finger on the trigger. The Single stacks (239/225 A-1) are a better fit for me. I'm not in law enforcement and I''m not expecting to face off against John Wick so 8+1 and a spare mag or two is sufficient round count for me.

You might like the p365, it is 2/3 of the grip thickness and maybe 80% of the grip width of the p229:

This might give you an ides of the grip thickness between the p365 (right) and the m11A1 (left):

I looked at a P229 Legion today. Great trigger. That said, I am trying to not turn into a P365 fanboy but it is hard to resist the dark side. :)

I moved away from DA autos about 13 years ago. Now I'm strictly using striker fired pistols, and for range fun, the occasional 1911. That said, I have always thought the best DA pistols are the older models from Sig (220, 228, 229, 226) and the HK USP. I was issued a 228 (army M11) for a while, and I relly liked it- hated it when I had to give it back and take up the M9 (beretta 92F) again. Also, the SEALs used the 226 for many years, to good effect.

My 226 was a 1990 purchase that I carried in the academy... I still recall the serial number I had to have memorized for formations, “U41899-“ . I had it done over by Robar when the finish started wearing off.

I still have a 1990’s 228 in the safe, the 226 was traded away years ago. I had the SRT added in 2015, it’s a really nice shooter :).

The older West German P series Sigs are my favs by far , but a 365 may be in my future...

Stay safe.

My order of preference in the SIG P22* series:

1) P229
2) P228
3) P226
4) P220

While all double stack Sigs are a bit large for my hands I'm glad I went with the sig p229 scorpion. It never seemed like you gained much with the 226 and with more gun it made the already large grips more uncomfortable than necessary. It's far too large for me to carry but it's a keeper for sure.

I have this version of the P226 (it's the P226 AL SO):
SIG-Sauer P226 AL SO left,codice Bignami 330240.jpg
SIG-Sauer P226 AL SO right,codice Bignami 330240.jpg
(pics from Bignami S.p.A.)
I love it, it's scary accurate, reliable, fits my hand perfectly, I like the decocker-only lever. I prefere it over every other service pistol I tried and I've tried pretty all the service pistols on the market.
P.S.: and she is sexy.
