Shotgun for 3-gun?

That tells you the key to your answer, go to the matches you want to shoot and see what works and what doesn’t. If you ask the right questions you’ll likely be offered some shells to try out different ones.

My magazine fed shotguns have won some matches for me but sometimes they puts me in a class I don’t want to be in. There are lots of choices out there these days.

Yeah, that's great. But, unfortunately, the nearest 3-gun club is almost three hours away. I'm not going just to watch, if you know what I mean!

I'm eyeing that Mossberg 930....... 'cause it's only $650... Any thoughts?

I'm also thinking of going with a Winchester 1300 the first time.

This has been a fun thread. I used to shoot 3-gun quite regularly. Now all I can claim is 3-gun matches are an on/off thing. Depending... I've used a Winchester 1300 for the last 15+ years. I've never come in first but I've never come in last. It seems like the shotgun stages are where shooters lose the most time. Regardless of what they are shooting. I've always had a good time and usually learn something about handling firearms. It seems to me that semi autos have many more problems than pumps and with magazine fed shotguns the problems increase exponentially. It's much less expensive to buy a few quad shell holders for you belt and practice with them than buy another gun. Remember, "If you're not shooting it, you're feeding it".

Be safe out there and have fun.

If you're weak hand loading from caddies or single loading from a sidesaddle or bandolier or dump pouch either will be fine. You might eventually be a little faster with an auto but you can hold your own with a pump against most amateurs.

Here's my 590 just for fun

That’s your prerogative, I would suggest that just to know if you like the game and how it’s played. Forgetting buying once for equipment.

There is enough going on for folks new to the game (no matter what game it is) always helpful to know what to expect before you bring your gun(s).

“3-gun” isn’t like IDPA or USPSA with a standard set of rules within that particular game, variations exist inside the name “3-gun”.

That said, any shotgun you can load quickly that runs will do.
