I got this with some stuff at auction and it looks like it might be a projectile of some sort. It could be for curtains for all I know and I'm embarrassing myself, but I honestly don't know. The end of it has a cup shape to it.

.374" diameter
2.635" length

What does it weigh? I agree with the arrow head suggestion. The bottom is what a modern arrow insert looks like and if the weight in the 80-125 grain range it’s probably an arrow head.

Without knowing more, like it's origin, it's all a WAG. I very seriously doubt if it's any kind of firearm projectile. I have't played Robin Hood in many years, but that doesn't appear to be any kind of field point or broadhead (looks too long and heavy, and why a stainless steel body?), and none of my arrow tips looked that finely machined...

Jes my dos centavos...

Thanks for the input.
There are no slots for blades.
The bottom "cup" has no threads to attach to a arrow shaft, but the cup is a different color, possibly pressed into place.
Could it be some sort of top secret military railgun bullet or maybe an insert to some super penetrator round... Been watching too many movies I think.
Weighs in at 416 grains

Was gonna say it could be a practice tip for a specific type of broadhead. Many of the newer, high priced expendables come with something similar. The bottom looks similar to what screw inserts for arrows look like(glue grooves) Then you said it weighed 416 grains. Way too heavy, unless it is for bow fishing. Could be the barb and string attached to the cannelure in the center. Maybe a Spear fishing head for a speargun?

I don't think it is for an arrow then.
Very curious!

The reduced diameter in the middle of the anodized part tells me it could what we called a spool in the internals of a solenoid valve for controlling flow of either a gas or liquid. I have never seen one with a point on the end that I remember.

I have worked with modulating valves that control the amount of flow of hydraulics but never taken one apart. That might explain the pointed end. Just my WAG's.

Did you try GoogleEye or TinEye? They're basic photo recognition tools that might help you narrow down what it is. My guess is it's from the innards of some machine, not a projectile, but I'm wrong about half the time too. It sure is a pretty piece of metal, though.

I assumed when you said you got it at an auction and since you posted it here on a gun forum, it was bought with other gun stuff. If not than it's a WAG.

Maybe a dead center for some device?

The tail doesn’t really look like any of the pull stud configurations I have seen but we are just guessing.

It's a thigamajig for a whatumacallit, or a whatumacallit for a thigamajig, I forget which. :)

Have a blessed day,

Leon
