Looking for recommendations on stocks for my 629. I have small’ish hands. What I mean by that is my palms are small but I have long fingers. They are not long enough to reach the trigger comfortably. I reach the hammer for single action shots without changing my grip. I like the offerings from Altamont but the sheer number is daunting. Does anyone have experience with similar hands and grip choice?

PS: it’s a round butt frame and it’s a carry gun.

I have a m29

I used Pachmeyer presentation grips with the backstrap removed.

I then placed strips of tennis racket wrap on the back strap and wrapped with black electrical tape......not especially pretty, but, worked wonders for control

You’re right. Mine is round butt. Glad you mentioned it before I ordered something.

You probably would have been fine. I got a square-butt N-frame a couple of years ago (a Model 22-4) and have had a surprisingly hard time finding good grips for it. The factory grips for that gun are in the style of the 1930's (https://www.gunauction.com/buy/12715587), which look wonderful but are too small to be practical. Magna type grips don't suit me either, nor do the oversized factory target stocks, so I've been using some old Pachmayrs. You will have a much wider and better selection.

Most of the S&W revolvers have been RB's for a while now. Its annoying for some, and fine for others. Depends on the gun and what you want out of it.

I prefer RB's for the smaller 2"-3" guns, and anything 4" or so, SB.

The current S&W rubber grips are annoying to me, because they enclose the backstrap, and make the trigger reach off. They also transfer/focus the recoil right into the palm of your hand.

For rubber grips, I prefer the Houge Mono grips. They dont cover the backstrap, spread out the recoil better, and place your trigger in the proper place. Ugly as hell, but they are the best (for me anyway) for shooting grips.

For wood, which I actually prefer, especially on the older guns, I like the original Magnas and a T Grip. They just "look" correct and feel good. They still dont shoot as well as the Houge rubber Monos though.
