I have a Pietro Beretta, Silver Hawk 12ga, sxs shotgun made in 1959. It's ln very fine condition. It does not have a noticeable scratch, dent or ding on it. It's had exactly one box + 2 shells through it. My wifes stepfather bought it new in 1959 in California. He put 1 box of rounds through it and put it in the closet untill 10 years ago when I got it. I put 2 shells through it and put in my safe. It only comes for out cleaning and show off .Now my problem. The butt plate does not fit properly. My wife's stepfather said he never noticed and thats the way it must have come from the gun shop. The butt plate is Beretta, the screws are Beretta "silver" and there is only one set of screw holes in the stock. It's hard to believe it made it out of the factory like that but there it is. Photo attached. This is a gun I plan to pass on and would like to have it right. My question is what are my options? I want to keep it Beretta. Is it possible to find a Beretta butt plate that will fit without any grinding. Screws out screws in sort of thing. Or maybe a beretta recoil pad. Would a recoil pad make the stock to long. Or would the stock have to be cut. Something I don't want to do. Ideas? 20190730_091854.jpg

Can you get some better pics of that? It does seem odd it would leave the factory like that. I'm sure a proper buttplate could be found. And while not factory, one of the thin classic English style rubber recoil pads always look good on a classic double. I like this one from Lyman. I'd get red, but they have brown, black and green as well.

No. You might be able to find a proper original recoil pad for this model, but it must be fitted. Quality oversized ebonite recoil pads are available from several manufacturers, that will keep the looks of this shotgun close to the original, but they must be fitted by a qualified gunsmith.

P.S. There is no way a Beretta will leave the factory like that. Not a chance.

Well , After two day's of checking with Limbsaver, pachmayr, kick-eez, hogue and Beretta I think it's safe to say I'm not going to find a prefit recoil pad that will work. Grind to fit will have to do. But, now i have to figure out if one of the grind to fit will work with the curve of my stock. I think limbsaver said it will work with a 1/8 and " Maybe" 1/4 " curve. " Maybe". Now, to top it off. I have been looking for a good gunsmith near me. A half dozen gun shops - none with a gunsmith. Need a custom built 1911- 5 minutes from me. Need a very expensive custom target rifle - 15 minutes. Nearest gunsmith 40 miles. Two and a half star rating. And he wont answer phone. Maybe closed down. Never thought a recoil pad would be such a problem. 20190803_202212.jpg

The butt plate from from vintagegungrips.com fits great. Seems to be an exact reproduction. And it's made in the USA. Amazing to me.

Glad you got it done right on your own! That Silver Hawk is a treasure worthy of passing down, but you can put a box or two through it every year. At least a round of Sporting Clays.
