I just picked up a huge unused 30L Ultrasonic Cleaner from an estate. I wasn't really looking to buy one but I couldn't pass it up for $30.
I want to hear about your experiences using an ultrasonic to clean guns or gun parts and what kind of solution you use. Thanks

I use my ultra sonic cleader to clean my black powder pistols. Take off the grips and put the whole gun in for 30 minutes. comes out clean as a whistle. I just bow the gun down with the compressor and put a light coat of barricade on the outside, and dry mop the barrel. Put the gips back on and I am ready for the next outing.

That is a fantastic deal. Ultrasonic units work well on the metal parts of firearms. One thing to remember is that they come would absolutely clean of oils and lubricants. It is important to carefully lube the firearm. I usually take the parts out of the ultrasonic unit rinse them, blow dry the parts and then put a second ultrasonic bath, this time with lube as the medium. Don't use flammable oils. I use slick 2000. When you are done, wipe the parts and let them dry. Your firearm will be clean, lubed, and well protected.

Indeed, a great price. I use mine mainly to clean brass, but occasionally I will clean handgun parts, such as barrels and small parts. It's best to disassemble the pieces first. I have not sonicated slides because it might ruin or loosen the sights. I have not sonicated aluminum parts either, for concern of pitting. I do like Fyrstyk, blow dry after sonication, then lube.

I use mine to clean guns, gun parts, brass, reloading dies and tools. I have one with "Ed's Red" and one with "simple green". You can use glass beakers to put small parts in to keep them separated, if you suspend them the liquid in them looks to be boiling. You are supposed to use some special water, I just boil mine first

I have a smaller version of that same unit, at least it looks the same, and it's fine for gun parts. Mines not quite large enough for complete pistol frames though. I use Hornady gun cleaning solution made for sonic cleaners. Recently did a stripped Glock slide to clean all the crud and it came out very clean indeed.

You super scored on that deal. I have the same one and paid a heckuvalot more than that.

Thanks for the responses. I will try this out on one of the Glocks after the next range trip. I'll try it on brass too just for a comparison to wet tumbling. I'll use it to clean dies too and I'm sure other things that I haven't thought of yet.

Great tool as long as you have a lubricating tank to go with so all the water is driven off.

I use simple green concentrate sometimes and concentrated glass cleaner (ammonia) other times.

Usually go about 30:1 dilute.

That''s a steal. I have a small jewelry one I use to clean individual parts and trigger groups, but one that size can be handy for all sorts of gun-related stuff. I see brass behind yours, that's another use besides guns and gun parts.
