US Senate may consider a new Assault Weapon Ban

So the article actually discusses UBC and RFL, not AWB

It seems that whoever titled it got it wrong.

That matches what I heard in a brief interview earlier.

But he did not promise anything, only that he would see what both sides could agree on.

Also the NRA apparently warned against a UBC law.

Aww my wallet may not make it through another panic. But if ars make it back to 2k my safe will start feeling really empty really fast and my mortgage will be really happy. As far as ubc we should see if any way we can get a clause where your local police station has to run these checks for free.

They don't even have an up to date prohibited persons list now. With out that the RFL is useless.
With in the last year or 2 a mass shooter walked into a gun store, bought a gun. He had been dishonorablely discharged from the air force for beating up his wife bad enough to put her in the hospital. The air force put the guy in prison for a few years then when he got out the AF never bothered to file the paperwork to put the guy on the gun buy naughty list.

There is actually an update to this, the last Congress passed a fix NICS bill in 2018 that has added quite a few records (about 6 million) to the no buy list. https://www.conservativereview.com/...-system-following-passage-2018-fix-nics-bill/

Here is what the bill does to fix the records problem. https://townhall.com/notebook/bethb...cs-bill-congress-keeps-talking-about-n2455875

Mitch McConnell has announced the Senate needs to pass a bill to address the shootings, and says an AWB could be considered. Now is the time to stock up.

Exactly. Can’t trust any of them. Yesterday he nixed the idea of an AWB, today not so much. I say we just all stand up and say no.

No way, we need to push back and shut it down for the millionth time. Many towns in my area don't even have a police force and the one FFL in town already charges $30 per transfer per item (so if you buy 10 AR receivers you're paying $300 in transfer fees). If it were required to go through a dealer I bet it would be at least double that for a transfer (which, under a UBC would be required even on loans).
Background checks need to go, they infringe as it is and the repeal for people who have been incorrectly denied falls on deaf ears. Not to mention all the ATF knocks on the door for multiple handgun sales because you decided to lend a couple pistols to a buddy to take to the range because you have to work, and have to do multiple handgun transfers back and forth.

At least from what I’ve seen/heard, these type of situations wouldn’t require going through an FFL. You’d still be able to lend guns to friends and such.

Most of what I’ve seen also allows for firearms to be transferred within a family without an FFL.

I'm not sure which bill you're referring to but most of the UBC bills have that been proposed that I've read do include temporary transfers. Otherwise it would be a pointless bill. And while "family" is usually excluded, they don't recognize non-traditional families. I created a thread in General on some UBC highlights that is common with most proposed bills if you feel like checking it out.

Timing for an AWB vote couldn't be better.....just about one year away from an election. Current anxiety will subside and focus will be on their "employment situation" for the next few years. Those that want an AWB will out themselves so the voters know.

There's a path I'd be willing to take to have UBC.

Repeal the NFA of 34.
Repeal GCA of 68.
Open up background checks to private citizens to call and make (or an app). And CCW holders are exempt.
Get rid of form 4473, and ban the ATF from collecting any sort of records of sales or background checks.

Do these things and I'll be OK with UBC.

Don't forget the repeal of the Hughes Amendment to the FOPA.

Who's paying $600 for an AR? More like $350.
Depends on what you want. Yes, it's possible to get a low-end AR cheaply. But I just paid ~$600 for an A2 upper half only from Brownells, and I had to put it together myself. (And even at that it had a mismatched "F" marked front sight base.)

That's a bit snobbish. Most people wouldn't even know what you're talking about. Prices have gone up in the past week. Many places, 10 days ago, had basic Ruger and S&W rifles below $400. Those fulfill the basic requirements of 95% of buyers. They go bang.

I just came back from a LGS here in N. Alabama to pick up a repro antique Colt 1862 Uberti revolver. Lots of people were there by the rifle section, and guess what they were all interested in?;)

AR-15s!

Surprise surprise .... can you say: "MARKET FORCES AT WORK??"

Sorry to appear I'm gloating or anything .... but hey, it's a real thing.

Contact your congress critters and the Prez! the below is copied from the FPC website. I've done all of the below and will continue to do so.

TAKE ACTION

1) Write President Trump, Senate Leader McConnell, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Graham, and other key leaders

2) Call Senate Leader McConnell and your state’s U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121 (Senate switchboard) and tell them to OPPOSE “red flag” laws and federal gun control

3) Call President Trump at 202-456-1111 (White House comment line) and tell him to OPPOSE and VETO federal gun control and “red flag” laws

4) Multiply your impact by asking others to help you STOP “red flag” confiscation laws through email, text messaging, social media
