I'm shopping for a complete parts kit, less the frame, slide and barrel, for a 1911 build. I found what looks like a quality kit at 1911builders.com and would like to find a couple other options before moving forward. The gun(s) will be fitted and assembled by my local gunsmith. Suggestions?

I would let your gunsmith at least recommend the parts to choose, if not actually choose them for you. He does this for a living and knows what parts work best with what frame/slide/barrel components you may choose.

My thought, also. Assuming the gunsmith is truly well versed in the 1911. I saw a parts gun assembled by the local repair gunsmith and it was pretty shaky.

Yep, thats why I talked to him at length before buying the frames and slides from him.

You should inspect the gun / pistolsmith’s 1911 work firsthand before you commit to a project. I have generally had very good personal experiences with gunsmiths, but I have had one experience in particular with a talented gunsmith who turned out to be a really bad businessman and a shady character. I recommended EGW because they produce top quality gun parts and at one time they did some fantastic pistolsmith work for me.

Thanks for the advice and recommendation.

My advice: most of what you get in "kits" is all basic budget stuff that will function, but negates the whole point of having a custom 1911 built. I'd also say to let the gunsmith decide, but even you're set on buying them yourself, don't buy a kit. Buy the parts piecemeal so you can get quality stuff.

My personal favorite is EGW, but other companies like Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, etc also make good parts.

Well, Brownells sells Nighthawk Custom 1911 Match Grade "kits" in 45ACP and 9mm - https://www.brownells.com/handgun-p...ernment-match-grade-parts-kit-prod104650.aspx

Fusion Firearms "build kits" - https://www.fusionfirearms.com/pistols/customize-your-own/kits

And Sarco "kits" - http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/search.aspx?find=1911+kits&log=false&category=64

So not all "kits" are same.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
The slides and frames are already fitted. I'll be getting a match grade barrel with a fitted bushing. So I'll be relying on the gunsmith to do the rest. He had a few suggestions 1. He would buy all the parts which would cost me more and take longer. 2. I could piecemeal most of the parts and leave the trigger and hammer parts up to him. 3. Find a complete kit with decent parts. So I'm shopping around.

Pic of frames and slides. Fit is tight and smooth.
