Gunny, I think that you'll be very pleased with the Criterion barrel on your Garand. I built an M1 Garand in .30-06 with completely refurbed parts and a new stock and stock metal and a new Criterion barrel when I attended CMP's Advanced Maintenance Class down in Anniston back in 2015. With the trigger job the class taught us how to do (my trigger breaks cleanly at 5.5 lbs with no second stage creep or grittiness), mine shoots to 2" at 100 yards. Yours is a beautiful looking rifle!

Enjoy it!

Gunny convert one at least in .308 when I placed the order from CMP were out of them so when to 30.06.
Please, tell us how them print.

Phenomenal save on that Garand.

For the second rebuild, IMHO, I'd ask if Tony could try to conserve as much of the original parkerization as possible (YMMV, but I'm a fan of the green park). But, probably will be some crud under the barrel from the looks of the gas cylinder, but at least the receiver and op rod areas look preservable without reparkerizing?

Here it is next to another M1 that is in the same condition as the one I sent to Mr. Tony.
This other rifle will be going to be shipped to Mr. Tony in a week or two to be totally reworked also.
Mr. Tony is The Garand Guy.

Everyone needs three M1 Garands stacked in the corner.

Oh dang, I'm one short

That's what I figured. The dark park on the replacement barrel/gas cylinder, while conserving the the green park on the receiver, might be a combo worth exploring. Either way, you've resurrected the first one very nicely!

I could clean up one, but the barrels are so bad that they would bu unsafe to shoot. I wish Mr.Tony offered a gray park.

For the price and turnaround, that is a splendid deal. CMP will take upwards of 6mos.

I too have a CMP “Special” I bought from the CMP three years ago. It looked identical.
With match grade ammo, it shoots under 2” at 100yds. Easily holds 10ring at 600yds.
If only I could hold the black, off hand at 200...

Haven’t shot it yet. The weather got bad then I got busy. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it out to the range next week.

A guy I see at the range often who is a match shooter had a Criterion barrel put in his M1903A3, he said at first it didn't group well but after some use the groups started to shrink.
