So, let's add Ivanka to our list of email contacts:

Ivanka Trump is reportedly calling members of Congress to feel out various gun control proposals and to figure out what needs to be done in order to get them passed.

Axios reports that Ivanka “has quietly been calling lawmakers since the El Paso and Dayton massacres to gauge their openness to movement on gun legislation when Congress returns.”

These calls reportedly included a conversation with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who is preparing to reintroduce the universal background check bill he and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) pushed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School attack.

One of Manchin’s aides told Axios, “[Ivanka] was trying to get a sense of what bills are out there. She had him explain how they drafted the bill, where it stands and what changes needed to be made in order for it to pass.”

This is my biggest issue with the whole situation. There is so much "he said, she said", finger pointing, deflecting, and sweeping under the rug, that there is no way to truly know what is actually going on. I for one don't trust either side to be telling the whole truth, but I would like to see a whole lot more transparency on the NRA's part.

Well, at least I posted their letter. I did search for a response to the NYT article and there is none yet. I will definitely post that if/when I find it. I do want to point out that only the pro-NRA side posts data while the other side just tosses bombs and hyperbole.

For example over a half dozen mentions have been made in the NRA membership declining and each time we have asked for data to corroborate this, to this date and through at least four threads, no data to support this has been provided.

It is not my belief that “only the NRA can do something” it is my belief that they do something more than all the rest combined... admittedly that’s not always a good thing. The accusation that giving to the NRA is “just throwing away money” well that’s obviously not true. At least in reality.

And for what it’s worth, I support the NRA, the GOA, the SAF, the FPC and my state group. I like to spread the love, can’t think of a reason not to.

Finding support for reasonable gun control will make Daddy more appealing to larger pool of voters.

[sarcasm]Newsflash ... politicians are political[/sarcasm]

How abut looking at it as another line of communication to one of the most powerful people on the planet ! And his daughter, no less :)

Every election in this country is a judgement between a lesser Good and a greater Evil.
"Sitting it out" is tantamount to electing that greater Evil.
Do not be so foolish as to think otherwise.

Don’t be foolish and think there were not a lot of far left Bernie supporters that just sat out when they felt wronged.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for us though....

I figured the POTUS changing the definition of what a machinegun is without Senate or the House passing new laws OR getting anything for it as part of a “deal” told me all I needed to know about his position.

That's why we need to vote out Republicans In Name Only (RINO) law makers in future elections and replace them with conservative pro-gun/2A Republicans and we may not have to worry about them caving in.

I agree, but there has to be a challenger to the incumbent. Too many times the RNC won't fund a challenger and we keep getting stuck with the RINOs .

We elect supposed conservatives who promise us that they will do everything they can to protect our gun rights but then pass laws that diminish those rights. At least with a liberal, who proposed all kinds of anti-gun laws in their election campaign, you get a representative who will do what he promised. Gotta wonder which one is the honest one. Really makes me angry, I have voted in every election for almost 40 years now and have voted Republican every time. Depending on what happens before the next election I just may set it out, you get screwed no matter who you voted for.

Well. IMHO, if you sit out we all will be most definitely screwed.

Ivanka wasn’t elected. She needs to shut the h*** up and go through the same channels any of us would. Trump needs to reel her in.

One of the biggest problems we have in this country is this elitist attitude that is allowed to permeate our governments from the local level on up.

Vote for the candidate who says they will vote pro gun, maybe screwed or don't vote at all and be definitely screwed; that is the question. Personally, I like maybe better; at least I can raise h*** with the one who lied to me in the first place.

hps

What @hps1 said ^^

Just remember that, in the end, they are all politicians and their job is to get re-elected.

So it is OUR job to make sure OUR political views are foremost in their minds ...

No thanks.

I think the choices are better defined as:
  1. Vote for Democrat candidates KNOWING they WILL work towards gun confiscation and gun ban - Wrong choice
  2. Vote for Republican candidate KNOWING he WILL NOT work towards gun confiscation and MAYBE some gun control - Better choice
  3. Not vote - Wrong choice. Why would I waste a vote?

The guy supported UBC, AWB, capacity limits darn near all his life. He supported antigun canidates and donated to them several times more than he has donated to the NRA or any pro gun groups... I'm kind of take aback by all the sad faces who are surprised that the guy is currently pushing for gun control... It's like lending money to someone who swears they'll pay you back, who has filed bankruptcy countless times, and who has a 300 credit score, and then being surprised when they don't pay you back... Republicans voted for an antigun canidate, and they got what they asked for... Don't cry now...

No political figure is pro-gun. Unless it gets em votes; then their all of a sudden their a lifelong shooter and were born with a NRA membership. I’m not surprised at the least on this. Now the issue of “ vote the guy who’s running on the promise of (Stupid gun law here) “ or vote in “ the guy who’s says he’s pro gun because he needs the votes “. A messy issue no matter how ya cut it,

At this point, it's like voting for a slow and painful death or a quick death... Either way, we're dead in the end...

Trump is pushing gun control before an election, what makes you believe he's not going to be even worse afterwards when he's no longer up for reelection? We're voting for gun control and gun bans either way...

We should have voted for guys who, like with credit, have demistrated a record/hidtory of supporting gun rights instead of politicians who suddenly out of nowhere claim to be progun when they're running for office...

Hope is better than no hope.
