try asking at a gun store in showlow. I don't think there will be much good dove hunting in a pine forest.

luck,

murf

Might help to know WHERE you mean, as in state or similar...............jes' sayin'

Dove are best hunted where they feed.

Apparently, there is a White Mountains in central-eastern AZ.

OP, most of us living in the Northeast think you are referring to our White Mountains in NH.

Sorry, just busting your chops a little; I see this same stuff in other forums where someone might say "Hey, come to our shoot this weekend" without bothering to tell anyone where the hell they are., SO, going forward, it is better to give a little too much than not enough if you want help from folks on locations for anything. Some of old timers actually took Geography in school.......;)

Gila Bend for what you seek.

But Oasis on the south-east side of the White Mountains (of California) usually is good for dove.

Be very sure to stay off the Rez when hunting in the White Mountains of Arizona.

I was thinking the White Mountains East of Bishop Ca. I haven’t seen too many doves there.

It looks like someone has a spot for the OP to try.

Stay safe.

The west(and east side) of the White/Inyo range has some great chukar hunting.
Cross them into Fish Lake Valley and you are mostly in Nevada.... except Oasis(CA), a small alfalfa ranching area with Cottonwood creek coming out of the mountains. But don't fall into any mines, and watch out for the rattlesnakes!

The West side of the Whites is really dry in the hills. I’ve seen a chukar drinking “well” about halfway up Black Canyon on the west side, and Silver Canyon has the year round stream near Laws so there are birds and bighorns there. On the East side I’ve taken the canyon down from where Silver Canyon Road meets White Mountain Peak Road that follows the little stream down past the sheep camp into Nevada (towards the area you’re talking about). We saw some mountain quail and deer there and up on the tablelands near Toms Place/RockCreek and Crowley Lake... very few doves tho. :)

Stay safe.

Up Silver, down Wyman Canyon. All good chukar hunting. Did you find the ruins of White Mnt City and the petroglyphs at the bottom of Wyman canyon?

For a little more excitement follow the power line maintainance road up Silver instead of the tourist road.
There is also a route(*) from Crooked Creek past the cow camp and down the east side, (probably no longer legal)

The White Mountains of California (14,252 ft) dwarf the rest, the highest peak in Nevada (Boundary) is a bump on a ridge of a higher peak (Montgomery) in California.

I also really like the southern extension of the Whites, the Inyo Range... both west and east sides. Good deer hunting! All that area is wonderful, Saline, Euerka, Panamint valleys... ect. When there is too much snow in the Sierra, you just go east.

I lived in Mammoth and Swall Meadows (down the old road from Toms Place) for 23 years, I consider it "home".

Nice! ECVMatt is from the Slim Princess ECV, and I have a friend or two from that clan. My good friends own Toms Place (Mark and Michelle). I’ve known them (and the Toms Place crew) since 2000. One of my favorite places to go!

Stay safe.

Where is a good place to hunt doves in the white mountains? Pinetop/Lakeside.
Hello: I also would like to know where to Dove Hunt in the White Mountains in Arizona..and and that is in the Showlow, Taylor, Snowflake, Pinetop/Lakeside towns of Arizona....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

NY considers then a songbird, not a gamebird, which is why you have no season

That's how it was in Wisconsin for many years. Even now with a regular season, most folks consider it "bad taste" to shoot them because they are such regulars at their bird feeders.

I have some doves that are HUGE at my feeders; I wonder how they can fly sometimes! I get a wife variety of birds at my feeders which are right outside my TV room in the back of the house

Is the research station still at the top? Beautiful view from the top and accessable without 4 wheel drive!

The AZ White mountains! The area north of Showlow might produce Doves that like high desert browse!

If you're a trout fisher there are Apache Trout in the Salt River near Horse Shoe Lake. The availability of family fishing on the Apache Reservation used to be great!

Smiles,

The research station at Crooked Creek (10,200 ft)can be driven to in a passenger car. The road to Barcroft station (12,470 ft) has a locked gate (at 11,680 ft ) 2 miles before the station which gets opened to the public ~1 day a year. The road to the hut on top of White Mnt (14,252 ft) 7 miles past the locked gate has not been open to the public for a long time (30+ years(?))

With the Covid restrictions on plane travel all of Southern California has been camping instead of other forms of vacation, and they have slammed the Owens Valley, Sierra Nevada, White and Inyo Mountains. The Bristlecone Forest has been especially busy, and with no ranger presence or garbage pick up the place is trashed.
It is one of the best views of the Eastern Escarpment of the Sierra Nevada, and the approach canyons have some great mule deer and chukar hunting.
