I have never owned a Glock, but the 48 feels good in my hand...and then this dark-horse called "Shield Arms" says they have a 15 round mag for this non-broomhandle Glock.

Does anyone have information or opinions on this?

My personal feeling is that this is a very, very, very cool thing...especially for people with smaller hands and a general distaste towards Glocks.

Yup anxiously awaiting it to come out. Really like the feel of my 48 and 15 round flush mag will be a big plus.

If the shield 15 mag proves reliable I think it would be great. Either way though the 48 is a sweet carry.

Might try one when/if they come out. I currently have a Shield +4 mag as a dedicated spare, and it runs 100%, but a flush-fit would be nice.
News at 11.

Wearing a G-43X as I pen this.
I too will be happy to see the 15 rounder [ heard it will be metal ] and that will make the G-19 obsolete .

How is that? If they can stretch the G43x mag capacity from 10 to 15, it stands to reason they can stretch the G19 mag capacity from 15 to 22 or 23. I’ll take a G19 with 23 rounds any day. In fact, sign me up for two.

Sign me up for two or more of each. It would be a win win for both the G19 and 43X if the mags prove reliable. I have yet to purchase the 43X but it is on my radar and if the 15 rounds mags become a reality and are reliable I likely will be in. I would agree and hope to see 22 flush fits mags in the future for the G19 if the 15 round mags become a reality for the 43X.
We can always hope, right?

Doesn’t look flush. That extension would take it right out of the CCW line-up for me.

The videos on the Shield Arms website show a magazine that appears to protrude the same dimension as the stock 10 round G43x/G48 magazine. Don’t know what you saw?

I don’t think it would directly translate in added capacity of the double stack mag variety.

The current Glock magazines are a true double stack, so if they foregone the polymer covering just for a metal G19 magazine the only improvement would be a thinner grip for the G19 by the dimension of the two sides of the polymer thickness. So it would get it closer to G43x/48 in thickness with the same capacity.

The idea is that they found a thickness between single stack and double stack for a stack + but one cannot apply that to a true double stack as how does one make a double stack + magazine work?

I hope I’m making sense. It makes sense in my mind why it wouldn’t apply to a double stack G19.

That's their mag extension that utilizes the stock G43x/G48 magazine.

I'm talking about the ground up designed mag that Shield arms is touting in the video I posted, watch the video and count the shots and look at the magazine protrusion below the firearm. 15 shots in a flush mag from a G48

Gracias

Why don’t we sit back and wait till the 15 round 43X mag comes to fruition? If it does, great. Then we can challenge them to see what they can do for the “under capacity” G19.
Till then it’s just vaporware.

I never commented on the G19 being "under capacity."

I agree, I am sitting back and waiting for the 15 round flush mag to hit the market. But their videos (if they are not doctored which would be dumb) show a proof of concept. I'm not saying their video shows reliability, longevity, or the like but simply that they somehow got 15 rounds to fire from a G48 with a flush magazine. I guess if that doesn't get you excited for what's around the corner then keep on keeping on with your G19, it's a fine firearm.

I was simply trying to discuss why I don't think the concept brought forth by the new Sig P365/365xl magazines and the Shield Arms prototype magazine likely wouldn't translate directly over to a G19 magazine.

What's the advantage of the plastic shrouds on Glock magazines? My polymer carry guns all use steel magazines and they work great.

I’m guessing for lubricity and impact resistance. But I too have wondered about the designs necessity.

I guess what you say about the double stack G19 mag makes sense now that I think about it. Hopefully Shield Arms will push the 48/43X 15 round mag to market and it will function 100%. Once I see it proves reliable I will then likely spring for a 43X and several Shield Arms mags.
In the meantime though I am very happy with the G19/4 ( except for the BTF on the last round) and P365. Both are excellent.

While this thread continues to excite me, I all of a sudden became curious what the quality control on these 15 round mags might be when they DO hit the market. It's clear that everybody who owns a 48/43x is going to buy between 3 and 3,000 of these mags, so I wonder if the production company will be able to keep up reliability AND demand. Just a thought. Either way...I want it somethin' awful :)

If Shield gets it right from the git-go they will sell a metric ton of 15 rounders. If not, well they missed a yuge opportunity.
