Glock 48 - 15 Round Mag!?!?

I've been shooting Glocks since 1995 . I am interested in this magazine but they have got to be tested thoroughly . Let me ask you Glock 48 owners this : Can you show us others a picture of your G48 magazine along side of the magazine spring ? And then a picture of you compressing the magazine spring next to the magazine ? As far as you can compress the spring. I have a feeling that these newer after market magazines may not last and be as reliable as Glock factory magazines.

I can already see the yahoos on Armslist and similar sites trying to buy them up and sell for $100, if they work. The same yahoos who try to charge extra by putting “rare” in the description when it ain’t rare.

The Glock aftermarket magazines that I have run enough rounds through to determine they are reliable and fit for carry are limited to one brand, MagPul, and these are $15 bucks apiece, if I buy three and one malfs in the gun, I can toss it (that hasn’t happened yet). If I drop one free to the ground and I step on it & crack it, I can toss it (also hadn’t happened yet). These $40 Shield Arms mags are a lot pricier than what I would spend for any Glock mags, and they are made from unobtanium. No manufacturers that I know of have produced a metal tube Glock magazine for a Glock pistol that was designed to work with a polymer tube and either a full or partial metal liner. So what are the long term effects of that metal tube on the plastic mag release in the gun?

Fact is, I have no dog in this fight since I’m in Cali & the G43x and G48 aren’t CA DOJ rostered in the first place and 15rd. mags are verboten here anyway, but I’m anxious to see if these new mags live up to all the hype they seem to be creating.

No worries, just like Rodney Dangerfield said in Back to School, as soon as Glock greases some of the Cali politicians pockets these will be on the roster.

Pretty sure if it was that simple they would have done it years ago. Gen4s been out 6-7 years now.

The list of firearms I should have bought before I moved out here last year gets longer all the time.

In the 1990s, Ramline made metal bodied Glock magazines. They rarely functioned without jams. But at the time, I had heard a few stories of the metal mags wearing down the polymer mag release.

They should look at producing a metal magazine release along with the magazines.

If they just had a small polymer insert in the mag body - where it connects to the mag release. That would be simpler.

If you put in a metal mag release, you could damage polymer factory Glock mags

I have never owned a Glock, but the 48 feels good in my hand...and then this dark-horse called "Shield Arms" says they have a 15 round mag for this non-broomhandle Glock.

Does anyone have information or opinions on this?

My personal feeling is that this is a very, very, very cool thing...especially for people with smaller hands and a general distaste towards Glocks.

Unless someone has small hands or lives where mag limit is 10 it makes no sense to buy G48. I would replace the gun with G19 gen V instead. The width difference is only 6mm and lighter weight can be reached by loading fewer rounds into standard 15 round magazine.

And yet, people outside of ban states, with large hands do buy the 48, because it makes sense to them. "only" 6mm difference makes a big difference in concealment, and the 15 rounder might be interesting if it really works and... all that has been said about it.

I’d want to see life test data from Shield Arms as to how many rounds between failures these mags were tested to work in a 43x or 48. I’d say about 100K rounds mean between failure in a stock gun would convince me that they have a good, reliable product.

That number is unrealistic. I do not think an average glock with a factory mag would go 100k rounds without a failure. Without even ONE? Hell, with that many rounds, there could be an ammo issue that might be difficult to diagnose the cause from...

I've had Glocks malfunction occasionally over the years....

You mean, it makes no sense to you. Just like it makes no sense to me to buy a G19 gen5.

Just so you know, people have differing reasons for the guns they buy. Its kind of a personal choice.

Your reasons don’t have to work for me, and my reasons don’t have to work for you.

OK so 100K is unreasonable, maybe 5 or 10K rounds is more reasonable. I’ve only had ammo related malfs with my 9mm and 45 ACP Glocks, the G22 was quite another story. In 10 years of owning Glocks, I’ve never had a magazine problem with OEM and MagPul mags, I still have every one that either came with the guns or that I bought, and they all work great. The older I get the more I want to stick with what I know works based on years of firsthand experience. I’ll let other people do the new product beta testing and read about it here.

Ok , so there is a book on Glock , history , the different models where they talk about the logic of the polymer mag vs metal mag which is more common.
Second shield arms has a first responder , vet , mil discount ( I dont work for them I found the website through another forum and checked it out independently )
Using a few different models of glocks over the years I can say I have never had an issue related to the magazine and thats including using AA 22lr conversion kit. Now ammo issues due to trying to be cheap , well thats another story entirely.
Personally I'll be picking one of these up to try out because unlike some folks think its not as easy as just carrying a 19 . Certain body type and wardrobe well , the 43x conceals better for me.
