I have decided that I want to get back into the AK game. So I am searching for a new AK that is currently readily available. Not the "Well, if you could find a used xxxx off some random guy on gunbroker..."

I want quality. I've had an Arsenal SLR107 FR...it was ok. It was pretty, stock was solid when deployed, would jam 2 or 3 times a mag. A trip to Arsenal did not solve the problem. Sold with problems disclosed.

I am not worried about historical or accurate to country X's original spec. Just want good solid rifle.

I would like a side folding stock. Not wire, but similar to Arsenal's. Not Magpul. I don't want a straight stock. I want the angle to bring sights up to eye level. The PSAK has a model like this, but no reviews on how solid the stock is. Folding vs non is not a deal breaker. Must be in 7.62x39.

The main superficial, petty, absolutely stupid thing that I am hung up on: I want plum. Furniture swap is acceptable, there just has to be plum furniture available for whatever the final choice is.

Currently looking at:

Specs look good. My understanding is rear tang is different than anything else due to beryl rail mount. But reviews on these are limited. They have another model with the beryl rail included. Worth it? Or stick to side mount?

Again specs look good/little info out there. Do dimples really matter? Also gas block and front sight are combined making for shorter sight radius. Does this really matter?

This is THE AK to have...according to the internet so it must me true...right? Downsides seem to be finish(rustoleum), weight, and it's furniture selection is limited. Basically I get what I get. I feel this is overpriced, but if there is nothing better, then it is what it is.

And lastly: https://palmettostatearmory.com/psak-47-gf3-forged-classic-side-folder-polymer-rifle-plum.html

Color I want, side folder I want. Appears to have the kinks worked out. (Does it?) How solid is the stock? Looks identical to the Arsenal folder. Same locking mechanism. Price is attractive.
Wouldn't you know this went out of stock as I typed this. I had it in my cart :cuss:

Primary purpose would be plinking, fun, walk my land that has feral hogs etc. Probably get a red dot at some point. Figure I'll give the MRO a try. Also looking at the beryl mount vs side mount.

With everyone being geared towards ARs these days AKs seemed to have fallen off the radar. I have a KS-47, but I am overflowing with ARs. I want something fun and different.

Looking for opinions/experience with above mentioned. Also looking for models I may have overlooked. I have limited AK experience. Open to suggestions.

eta: I shoot facing front, not bladed so the shorter stock (Warsaw I believe) is preferred.

Admittedly...of those, I've had the Sam7. Outstanding gun! Phenomenal trigger and more accurate than an AK should be.

I've got just under a 1000 rounds on this PSAK47 without issue.

"People" are saying things start breaking at 5-10K rounds, Allegedly newer production is supposed to be better.
Please keep us informed as to how it holds up.

A reasonably priced "domestic" AK would be welcome, but with the fire-sale prices currently on ARs IMHO hard to justify getting your first AK unless you have every possibility of AR variations you'd ever want covered.

The Operators Union YouTube video showed that it passed the 5k round test without issue. I'd hazard a guess that very few folks fire 5-10k rounds out of ANY firearm they own.

If I break anything I'll post it up.

Easy choice, current production WASR. Why people continue to think of it as bottom tier is beyond me.

I think it is some holdovers from the days when the WASR was the bottom tier, back when you could get an AK cheaper than an AR15. Myself, I have the PSAK47 Gen 3, I like it, and came out cheaper than any other option. I wanted to dip my toes in the AK water and not spend more than I had to, and I have done that. Will it hold up? Time will tell.

It wouldn't be my first. I've had at some point the SLR, Mak 90, and Yugo M70 underfolder.

Current AR line up includes:
16" Noveske barreled build with acog
18" Rainier Arms with 1x6
11.5" BCM uppered sbr with Comp M4
S&W M&P 22 (fun gun!)
PSA KS-47 8.5" pistol
Barrett Rec10 .308
Foxtrot Mike 9mm pistol

I have 3 spare lowers collecting dust. About the only thing left I have desire to build is the 20" CHF kit from PSA. But I pretty much have all AR bases covered and them some.

I'm wanting to get a decent AK before the next panic buy.

The Atlantic M10 Pro is a Romanian/Cugir build. That's why it was one of the ones I was considering.

I hear a lot of noise about American built AK's but it just doesn't pan out in my circle or my experience. Loose tolerances couple with good materials seems to be a winning strategy. I think a lot of folks repeat the mantra but don't have much first hand experience.

I've got seven 9mm & .45ACP pistols well over 10K rounds. S&W gave me a free new "Victory" .22lr pistol after my M22A broke for the fourth time at about 90K rounds and they said they couldn't fix it (now that's good support! I was up front about the high round counts every time it broke before shipping it back on their dime).

But I'll admit that the only rifle I have over 10K rounds is a Ruger 10/22 that I've had for ~30 years.

I always say: "If you've never broken a gun, you just ain't been shooting enough!"
:)

Any thing but American made AKs are good to go and the polish PAC imports are about the only foreign made AK to avoid.

Maybe I don't know any better, but my PSA GB2 seems to be holding up pretty well. The price was right, and it digests ammo OK from an assortment of domestic and comm block magazines.

Recognize that I didn't buy it as a "go to war" gun, but rather something to give me pleasure at the range.

I own one american "AK". Only had it a week, and only got a chance for one mag in the back yard (legal and safe where I live) it's the PSA AKV.

Fit and finish is excellent. Functioned fine with first 10 rounds being 124gr NATO, rest junk forged steel case. Was trying for a malfunction but never got one. If weather is nice, I will run it this weekend and sight in cheapo red dot.

The AKV is what prompted me to include the PSAK GF3 in the poll.

Would you mind linking to sites where one could get one (Spetsnaz....I see that Krebs sells from their site).
They don't sell; you have to be Spetsnaz to be issued one. Some of the AK's Izmash builds for them are the best made, but you or I will never get our hands on one. Marc Krebs makes the best available, then Arsenal.

How many American AK's do you own and what is your approximate round count?
None, but so far all of them have been shown to fail time and time again. The new G3 is probably the only one that so far; shows promise and it’s still relatively new. I just prefer a gun with a proven track history.
