Sold a few of my overstock of Smith revolvers, but this one just kept calling my name. Made an offer Saturday morning buy it was sort of low just to test the water. It was rejected. With about an hour to go, I couldn’t stand it and we finally made a deal. Mod 27-2 with 5” Barrel. Brand New with all papers and tools. Box even looks brand new. Has more of a turn ring than I would have expected but I’m satisfied it’s not been fired since it left the factory. Paid on the high side, but how many NIB 5” Model 27’s do you run across?

One of my gun trading partners is already hitting me up to let him have it. He has a pretty nice collection of mostly unfired 27's but is lacking a 5". I'll probably at some point give in and let it join his group but he will have to beg for a while and that is priceless!!

Great find! Definitely a favorite of mine too! That 5" barrel makes the Model 27 feel perfectly balanced!

That is an awful heavy turn line for being new in the box. I'm afraid I would have called BS to that statement that it was new in the box.
Not trying to offend you but I think you already know that as may revolvers as you have purchased that are new or almost new.
If you got it for a decent price then it doesn't matter, but new, I find that hard to believe.
The pictures below are not even new in the box, they probably could pass for it but they are really close to it except the top Model 28 that I've been shooting hard since the early '80s.

Every now and then we may pay a little more than we would like but every now and then comes along a really sweet gun we see as a must have and so it goes. All that matters is you are happy with the gun, that's all. Shoot it or look at it as it now belongs to you so just enjoy it.

I forgot what I gave for my Model 27 but it was what I felt fair at the time and a long time ago.

The felt in the presentation box is cracked but I like the gun and that is about all that matters. :) Enjoy your new to you gun!

Ron

you should be on the look out at all gunshows as good deals can be hidden fron good view and can be missed. this S&W 38 spl revolver in original box was in the back of a large case and if I was not paying attention it would have been missed. 525.00 out the door.

Color me envious :D

Nice find Eddietruett. I am afraid if I got my hands on one like that it would be at the range very soon after. It would have to get that turn line honestly.

In most cases, I would agree, but in this case, I happen to know the history of this particular gun. The dealer where it originated always encouraged his customers to dry fire all of his S&W's to feel the smooth action. I have 2 more NIB that I personally bought from this dealer back in the 70's and they both have a turn line about the same and I know for a fact that they have not been fired because I've owned them since they were new. The gentleman I purchased this Model 27 from is someone I trust as much as my mother and he told me the dealer he purchased it from and it was ironic that we both knew this dealer well. If he said he purchased it new and it has been in his safe ever since, I'd bet everything I own that its a fact. But you have a good eye and in 99% of the time, I would be thinking just like you are
