Going to get into loading this for my buddy's 2 boys who both just got 6.5CM rifles. This will be for deer (the tiny ones here in NC) but also larger pronghorn & mule deer out west later.

I'm thinking 140gr Hornady SST & H4350 but am a 6.5 novice so if that's not a good combo for intended use give me some suggestion please :)

I run 140s over rl-17 or superformance to get some extra velocity, but h4350 is the go to powder for the CM. My h4350 loads were over book max by a bit, so I won't repeat them, but they were accurate and gave about 2700fps.

140s and H4350 will be very hard pressed to deliver anything but good results. Suggest 37.5 grs as a starting point and I suspect mid to upper 38 is where you will find your best accuracy niche.

The H4350 is a very good choice, one of the newer temp stable powders. H4350 is what I use with the 140gr ELD-M bullets with excellent results. I'm restricted to magazine length 2.820" for my LR-6.5CM AR. Still get sub moa with little effort. I tried the RL-17 with excellent results till the temp got hot then started blowing primers. RL-17 is not one of the temp stable powders.

You have 2 choices for primers in the 6.5CM, SR and LR. All my brass is the SR, takes the pressure better when pushing them.

The node for most 6.5CM is in the 2700-2725 fps out of a 24" barrel.

Can't speak directly to the SST projectile, but the 140 AMax is pretty happy at ~2690 and the ELDM is happy ~2710. Both with a 24" barrell. I would not think that would be too much different with the SST.

Granted there is a node upper 2700's, but not needed for our tiny NC deer. Well above max and pushing dangerously high pressures with H4350 according to Quickload.

Max according to Hornady is 40.9 gr of H4350 with their brass.
With 2 different 24" barrels, I was about 25 - 30 fps slower than book speeds from Hornady.

It comes in large & small primer like 45ACP? Yuk! I didn't know that & have a thread asking to trade for some in for sale section.....didn't know i needed to specify a primer size......

SST and the Creedmoor is a very good bullet for SE deer. I’ve never had one take more than a couple of steps after being shot and several didn’t take that first step.

It depends on " YOUR" gun. H-4350 is the norm. At one time I had 3 Creedmoors. The cheapest one was a Ruger American Predator. That little rifle shot well with everything that I put thru it. 120 gr Speer, 130, Accubond, 120 Barnes with 2 or 3 different powders all shot sub-MOA. I believe that I put R-17, IMR-4350, H4350 thru it. My Bergara was finicky, 129 gr Accubond LR with H-4350 shot 6" groups at 500 yards. The current recipe is 143 gr ELD-X with R17. I really like performance of the Accubond on deer. It worked swell at ranges from 30 yards to over 350.
