What’s your favorite semi auto design, and why?

Does it just shoot well for you?
History?
Aesthetics?
Ergonomics?
Capacity?
Proprietary chambering?

Edit: Runner Up?

I'm a revolver guy but I would not be without at least one 1911. I actually own two, one in 45 ACP and the other in 9mm. I think one in 38 Super is next. I just love the classic lines and design of the 1911.

Why? Because it's a classic John Browning gun that has not changed in over 100 years and is still great. I like the newer 8 round magazines for the 45 Auto because it's always good to have more ammo available if the worst day of your life jumps out at you.

Glock
It’s simple and easy to maintain.
I shoot them well.
I have owned 4 Glocks in the past 14 years.
I must be an odd person because their grips fit my hands. The wide slide is easier for me to manipulate.
I think they are good lookin’ guns, once you get past the ugly.
I am pretty simple in regards to cartridge, I like the 9mm. It’s been around for 117 years.
Call me old fashioned.

I must second ArchAngel.

The beautiful, rugged Nineteen Eleven.

Chambered in every conceivable cartridge, from the lovely Double Duce to the hot Ten, from the ancient Nine to the venerable Fourth Five Auto, and every thing in between. Even a Fifty (G.I.) will fit!
(But really, Browning needs to get in gear on the Thirty Two Auto Baby Browning...)

The stark ruggedness of a Government model will catch your attention and the smooth class of an Alchemy Custom will draw you right into the mirror finish. But her glass-like trigger and impeccable range manners will treat you like no other.

Silly smooth and icicle crisp. A trigger for the ages. Verily "the" trigger all other pistols are measured against.

She will fall into your hand like a child. Rushing to it and filling it perfectly. Hugging your grasp.
An extension of your self.

Point shooting with the Nineteen Eleven is sub-conscious. Almost preordained. She knows where to hit.

And hit she does! With twice the weight of a Nine. Because shooting twice is silly. Unless of couse you like the speed games. A faster, softer shooter there never was!

As far as games go, I believe Bullseye was invented for her. More accuracy can be cut out of her, than can be built into a lesser pistol. And there are many...

The grace of a real Lady, the style of a runway model and WarHorse durability. From trenches to the ball room floor, she keeps perfect pace.

And if you happen to lose count on the way to eight, she will happily beat your quarry to death for you, have you the physique to do it.

And look gorgeous the whole while.

But, yeah, Glocks are nice, too. I guess...:D

Next, I will espouse my admiration for the Ruger MK series.;)

Call me a hipster... Butttttt

Daewoo K5/DP51
-- have a weird thing for Korean engineering, including Kia and Hyundai
-- basically a Smith and Wesson with a "Triple action"

Beretta Cougar/PX4
-- I like spinny barrels

Now, if we are talking all time favorite range pistols? Canik TP9sf and IWI Jericho

FNP-9
-just like my S&W mod 10 puts the lead where I aimed it.
-sa/ da no safety but really like the sear block

Runner up
Ruger SR9

I usually carry a wheelie but I like diversity.

Favorite would have to be the Luger. It has a distinct place in history as one of the first autoloading pistols to be accepted in military service, and do so successfully for several decades. And the action is so bizarre its hard not to love it. They fit well in the hand, shoot very accurately, and don't deserve their reputation for being "finicky" about ammo.

Runner up would be the Hk P9, another oddball design, those Germans scaled down their roller delayed blowback system from the G3 rifle and put it in a pistol!!! Also fits well in the hand, has a fantastic trigger, and shoots like a dream.

Not at all sure what "favorite semi-auto design" means so I just have to go by what I have accumulated.

I seem to have far more blow-back design than locked breech design semi-automatics.

I seem to have far more user removable barrel design semi-automatics those with a fixed barrel.

I have far more 32acp/7.65 design semi-automatics than any other caliber.

I have more samples of the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless than any other single design.

I most likely have shot my Beretta 1935 more than any other single model.

I seem to have more Beretta semi-automatics than from any other maker.

It is a toss up between my target M1911's and my target M41's.

This is a M46 and it is well designed. It has a great trigger, is accurate, ergonomics are great. It is very easy to field strip and clean. Anyone who has field stripped a Ruger MKI, MKII, or MKIII understands what I am talking about. The M41 design, you pull the trigger guard down, no blind latches or hammer struts, you can see what you are doing as you disassemble and reassemble the thing. I have talked to guys who have shot over 50,000 rounds of 22lr in competition with the things and never a problem. Though I will say, my M46 needed a new recoil spring.

The Captain of the All Guard team had been using his for about 20 years.

My favorite is the HK P7 - as a LH, I appreciate that it is completely ambidextrous, just squeeze the grip and pull the trigger. The fixed barrel seems to always make it shoot more accurately than any other semi I have, including my 1911. If there ever came a day when we were limited to less than 10 rounds, its 8+1 would fill the bill nicely.

I don’t have a favorite but I do have what I consider quality examples of different platforms.

DA/SA is a Browning BDA, I prefer it to the standard 81 Beretta series offerings, I still would like to add a 92compact to fill out the category.

Striker would be a Glock, not the baby or single stack but what I consider a perfect size G19,23.

Beretta Cougar/PX4

I didn't expect to see that one on the list really, but I can dig it. I had a Stoegar version, and it was a good gun. Only reason I got rid of it was I decided I didn't care for the 40 S&W cartridge. I'd happily own one in a different cartridge though.

The Steyr GB is appealing in its simplicity as well.
