Went to the range today and after some practice I ventured into the evil gun store area.
Needless to say Satan's firearm consultants were there to entice me.
Fortunately They didn't have the new Colt Cobra Target in stock yet so I was safe but I made the mistake of asking for his recommendation on a CCW pistol. Knowing me all to well he refrained from showing me anything with a springy thingy in the trigger but cast his line over to the Sig display.
Naturally I swam to the display like a Musky following a Suick.
Once there the devil's imp proceeded to pull three variations of the P365 from the display case.
Now I'm not a fan of striker fired handguns so the standard model didn't impress me but the second model had a manual thumb safety, holy JMB now we're talking.
The third model was the XL, slightly longer barrel and more capacity which isn't important to me but it was the perfect size, felt really good in the hand. Fortunately the third model isn't yet available with the thumb safety so my wallet is safe for now but as soon as they are available I'm doomed once again! :(

I have the version with the safety and it is quickly becoming my favorite. I've been a Glock guy for years. Never fell in love with Glock and have tried hard for many years to find something I really LOVED. But I kept coming back to Glock because they simply worked best for me. One thing I always felt would make them better was a well designed 1911 style safety.

A few months ago I bought one of the military versions of the M17 Sig with the safety and really liked it. When the 365 with a safety came out I bought one along with some 12 round mags. With the factory 10 round mags in it I carry it IWB very comfortably. The 12 round mags give just enough more grip that I really don't feel the need to carry my G19 any longer. I can still carry IWB with the 12 round mags, but with those in it prefer to carry OWB or as a nightstand or glovebox gun. And the 15 round mags will fit it giving me the same capacity as my G19.

I paid $450 for mine, and considering it comes with night sights feel that is a lot of gun for the money.

I have the original; I detest external safeties on guns for SD/HD - JMO, YMMV. Mine with the 12 round mag fits mt hand perfectly and I shoot it better than my larger pistols like my Glocks. The only 9mm I shoot better are my HK P7s.......

The Sig 365 with the 12 round mags was my choice. The first carry pistol I've ever owned without a safety.

I'm a 1911 guy. I've trained myself to swipe that safety off on the draw and to engage it on holstering.

I shoot club matches. Sometimes with a 1911, other times with a Canik TP9SFX. I always swipe the non-existent safety on the draw and try to engage same missing safety on holstering. Muscle memory is a great thing.

Never thought I'd be a striker-fired guy, but pocket carry changed all that for me, and for me the P365 is the epitome of this concept. I also prefer no safety, but then I'm not appendix carrying.

I prefer the one with no safety but I wouldn’t be upset if they all had a safety.

I was pretty impressed with the one I shot. It shot like a bigger gun. I anticipate buying one at some point. It’s just not a priority yet.

A CZ TSO is.

Did some research and found out the XL model with a safety is in the works but currently unavailable, I can wait. As Texas10mm said sweeping the safety is all muscle memory for an old 1911 user. So much so that a gun without one is kinda like having a car without tires.

I have been looking for a 365 around here but none of my usual gun shops have any even to look at/handle. My searches online for a safety model only show side views. No top views, so it is impossible to judge how far the safety protrudes from the frame. I usually pocket carry, and I'm concerned about the safety snagging inside my pocket.
I asked Sig and they said "it might".
Can anyone comment on this?

Made an inquiry to Sig about the XL safety issue, they e-mailed back that there are no current plans to include one. Bummer :(

Which is why I prefer guns without that added safety, no snags. Only my 1911 and my 1934 Beretta 380 have external safety levers, and I don't shoot either of them very much.

I have the Sig P365 without safety. However with my brand of jeans it is just a little large, even with the 10 round flat base mag, for pocket carry. I did find a leather pancake type holster and it conceals very well with shirttails out.

I wasn't happy with the p365 originally that I had it had all kinds of issues with failures to fire light primer strikes and not going into battery even after sending it back to sig.
None the less I was able to sell it for close to what I paid for it.

Later I found an almost too good to be true price on a used one when someone was wanting to switch from the original p365 to the XL.
I am thrilled with it and it will become one of my go to carry guns.
For what you get for your money and the ideal size for pocket type carry it turns out not to be as expensive as it looks on the surface.
Although the Taurus g2c could become its biggest competition.
I just don't trust Taurus except for the Taurus judge and that's just kind of a fun gun.

Wait, Sig is making a P365 with an external safety? Why did I not know this? I carry mine every day IWB. I’d love to use it for pocket carry but I’m just not comfortable doing so w/o an external safety. Welp, guess I’m just gonna have to get another one....

OP, I wold suggest you go back and look at the standard version with the manual safety. Have the rep put a 12 round mag in and then handle it.
You still have a very highly concealable ccw but with 13 rounds on tap of your favorite ammo. Speaking of which, the 124 gr standard pressure Gold Dot works quite well as do 124/147 Federal HST. I normally use the the GD.
Just a thought

I do understand some like manual safeties and some do not. One size never fits all. When I bought my P365 the manual safety model had not yet been announced. Had I known I would have waited. It was shortly after I bought my April 1 2019 build date they were announced.
I learned sometime ago that when carrying/handling guns with the manual safety that one should develop the habit of checking the safety each time you handle it. Do so by developing the muscle memory by sweeping up on the safety when you first pick it up each and every time you handle it. The concern of the safety accidentally being knocked off can be overcome in that manner. It is just simply another safe habit to develop.
AS always YMMV

I personally would like to see Sig come out with a Smooth DAO. No safety. They are the only guns I carry now. and quite pleased with them. Shoot them just as well as any light trigger firearm in fast shooting. Since making the switch, I have never looked back.

My wife has been a die-hard Glock 26 fan for years. Today, she got to shoot my P365 (no external safeties) - she has been converted from Glock to SIG

Yeah that’s exactly how I feel. I was an early adopter of the P365; bought mine barely used less than 6 months after they came out. My guess is the original owner just didn’t like the feel of it bc it had barely been shot. Have never had any problems with it at all despite all the bad reports about them. Have put 1000+ rounds through it. Gun folks can be mighty opinionated about something that comes down to a personal decision. Just found new one with a safety for a reasonable price and will be selling my first one after I break the new one in.
