This was in a fire. I know, duh! The rifle turns out to be the guys grandfather now passed. I'm no pro but to me it looked more aesthetically damaged than operational. I found wood for replacement and finally got the whole thing apart. It's like a baked on goop. He does not plan on shooting it so I'm not too worried about what heat may have done and will harshly advise aga IMG_0012.jpg inst shooting. What kind of suggestions might you have to offer? Is an ultrasonic cleaner advised. The bolt cleaned with ease under a polishing wheel and light compound. Well, here it is.

Understand beag_nut. I did find the furniture thanks to you folks, The owner does not want to shoot it so most of the advice was welcomed but not useful. As a "buy-back", well it's the only thing left from his Grandpa left to him. So there's no way he's going to trade it for a few bucks. I was hoping for ideas on what compounds to use to clean, chosen methods of re-bluing, how to buff burn marks on steel and things that fit under Gunsmithing and Repairs. Not sending it away for someone else to work on it or ways to get rid of it. Sorry if I posted with impropriety. I was looking for information and education that would aid me in the restoration in a rifle that this guy could look at and fondly remember his Grandfathers gift. I'll try you tube.

I would use Kroil and a stainless steel pot scrubber to clean the metal parts. There is a similar scrubber sold for cleaning firearms but the pot scrubber is readily available and the same thing. The stainless scrubber will not remove bluing.

Uh.... hmmm.

Do you mean a copper chore boy scrubber? Because the stainless scrubbers I've used would de-scale a navy destroyer's hull.

I meant stainless.I prefer the ones sold by Dawn.I've used them for years. They will not remove bluing. They might remove cold blue but it doesn't take much to do that.I've never tried the copper chore boys.None of the stainless ones I've used were branded Chore Boy.There may be a difference.
