I hope this fits under "general" because for me it is definitely a "gun discussion"! Albeit a bit humorous of me to be asking for financial advice from anonymous internet people.

So, I've had a Cabelas and now Bass Pro credit card for a few years, and I get 1% back as store credit on everything I purchase, and more (3%) for spending money at Cabelas/Bass Pro.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this assessment and situation, but it has become extremely apparent to me that Cabelas is not competitive in their pricing for the stuff I want. I want to buy gun stuff, not hunting stuff, not overpriced hoodies, not camping stuff, not fishing stuff, but gun stuff. Competition gear, ammo, gun parts, tools, and the like. Not that I don't enjoy fishing or camping, but I want my rewards to be gun stuff.

Also, 1% isn't all that great, and I don't spend all that much money at Cabelas.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen Brownells offering a credit card.

I got an email from Rural King recently and saw that they offered a credit card with 1.5% back. RK has guns, ammo, military surplus, etc. at much more competitive prices. Not planning to jump to RK instantly, but I would like to know who else has a decent credit card for us gun people.

If Amazon (whom I don't like) can do 3% back at Amazon; 2% on gas, restaurants, and drugstores; and 1% on everything else, surely some more 2A friendly companies can do similar.

Thoughts?

You have to let them build over time. I’ve gotten $3000 in free guns using my points, and I’ve got another $600 to spend.

There may be better deals but it’s all about patience.

I’m with Mauser on this. I run my entire household through my Cabelas card to the tune of $40k a year. For that I get a $400 store credit and they make 3% or $1500 off of me.

If you are listening Midway or Brownells, it’s time to enter the financial services market. It’s s great side businesses and gun owners are a serious bunch.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Cabelas is fine, except that it isn't. They give you "1%" back in the form of store credit that you can only use to purchase their overpriced goods. So... it isn't even 1%.

Now, if I got 1% to spend at Brownells.... An actual 1% or even 1.5% instead of a Cabelas %...

Does everyone seriously have Cabelas cards? There must be some other options!

Well ,the short answer is (probably) none of them--that's a separate issue.

Which card will come down to the fine print.
Doesn't matter whose name is on the plastic--it's who is backing it.
Credit One Visa or MC; probably ok
Citi Visa--potentially iffy
Bank America, also potentially iffy
WF in via or MC? Well, no, not with their data breaches.

Research will be your friend here, and may well trump in store credits (which often have all sorts of pitfalls).

I use a Cap 1 with 1 1/2% back from any purchase. May not be the best, but works OK for me. Yes, I would change if something demonstrably better from a reliable company was presented.

Anybody remember what the bank of Boulder offered? Always thought that was cool, ah those were better times.

Sorry for the drift but I’ve been nostalgic lately and don’t use credit cards.

Citibank gives me 2% on everything
Discover gives me 5% on certain things

I think it comes down to planning ahead and using your bank account to pay off your credit card bill.

If cabelas gives 4 % then that's how I would proceed unless I wanted travel rewards from amex or citibank.

I've got a card through Sportsman Guide that has similar perks except you can use them wherever.

Its really no different than the other cards I have where you earn money back on purchases though.

Amazon's card gives back 5% on everything sold through them.
Bank of America gives 3% on gasoline or travel (you choose).
Citi Double Cash gives 2% on everything else, no limits.

So to maximize rewards, I use these 3 cards depending on the purchase.
As mentioned, the key is to pay-off the balance every month.

Save your money and pay with cash. Banks and CC companies get paid a crap ton of money for our impatience. IMO, they make too much money already and if I'm paying cash and the merchant doesn't charge for using a CC I'm paying more than I should because the merchant has raised their price to cover the CC company charges.

We have a Costco Citibank Visa, a First Citizens Visa, and a Citibank Mastercard.

Currently, we use the First Citizens more than the others. The reason is, she wants another set of All-Clad aluminum pots. As she always says OK to all my firearm or toy car purchases; I'm saving points for the All-Clad pots and pans.

In my opinion, it is what does what you need.

I have a Cabela's, only because I have had it for 30 years; but I rarely use it. I have a Visa through my investment 401K company because I get 3% back on everything; and I use it to buy everything.

Used a Cabela's credit card for many years when working jobsites. Used that card to rent heavy equipment, for meals, fuel, etc. Got three guns free with Cabela's points, one was a nice Ruger #1. Currently hold a Cabela's card, a Discover card and a Citibank card. We have about $2,000 on the Discover card.
