Now Beto wants to take ALL THE SEMI-AUTO FIREARMS away (Not just AR15s and AK47s)

I disagree, if the antis get enough people in office and have the votes, they'll do it, backlash or not.
This is not catering to public sentiment. It's about CREATING it.

This is "vanguard party" stuff all the way.

They're going to get you the gun ban THEY say you want, even if they have to nuke you to do it.

Somebody needs to start a movement for him and Swallwel to run on the same ticket as independents.

Motto: "We're the genocide we've been waiting for!"

Beto went to a gun show in Arkansas. He reported that he talked to AR-15 owners there that said that, while shooting their guns was fun, they would be glad to turn them in to prevent mass shootings. At first I thought that he must be lying. But now I realize that those Arkansas gun owners were as smart as the ones sending him campaign contributions. Keep him talking, and watch him digging his hole deeper and deeper! Apparently he was too dumb to realize that they were putting him on.

And then, what's next?
"Hell yes, we're taking your SUVs!"
"Hell yes, we're taking your air conditioners!"
"Hell yes, we're taking your heaters!"
"Hell yes, we're taking your beef cattle!"

Once the guns are gone... .

Occam's razor says that he's just a pathological liar.

Does Beto even think he has a chance to be even nominated for anything, He will drop out very shortly even he is not that dumb to continue on.

I wish I could say that Arkansas gun show attendees planned such shenanigans. Nope. Beto's a bald-faced liar.

How does a law abiding citizen turning in a firearm prevent a crazed person from doing a mass/spree shooting?

The logic only makes "sense" when it comes to regulating firearms. As far gun grabber politicians go. It would be an insane notion to castrate men to curb rape or make cars harder to buy to curb drunk driving. But somehow regulating firearms and law abiding gun owners somehow fixes gun crime.

It doesn't. IMO gun banners don't actually care about public safety or believe that banning/confiscating guns will do anything to keep people safe. They are simply using the irrational fears and poor logic of their voting base to enact changes to our laws, and by doing so new or changed laws will give them greater control of the general population and help them maintain their own power.

They are capitalizing on stupidity to gain personal power, IMO.

If they ACTUALLY believe this makes sense or will benefit the nation, they are not paying attention.

There are actually three components to the antigun side: (1) professional gun controllers, (2) politicians, and (3) rank and file voters. Of the three, only the rank and file voters respond to emotional events (mass shootings, etc.). The professional gun controllers are cynically prepared to exploit any such events, and the politicians exploit the rank and file voters. This is a mutually-reinforcing circle.

It's not helpful to say that this is all a plot to control the general population. Each of the three groups has its own interests and motivations.

I should have specified politicians. I do not believe gun banning/politicians actually believe gun banning/limiting/or confiscation will benefit the country. I believe they use rank and file voter's fears to proliferate their power.

Yes, professional gun banners are also capitalizing and are operating on a premise of enlightened self interest (employment). Those types are not entirely dissimilar to the law firms that make it a business to sue federal land management agencies on behalf of environmentalists. In many cases those law firms don't give a hoot about the environment in most cases. They care about promoting their business by winning a case on behalf of their client. It's business to them.

Well, I wasn't responding to you and I agree, it's just something that fits in Beto's dialogue. I was responding to P5 Guy's question about how law abiding citizens turning in legally owned guns would prevent a lunatic from committing a terrible crime. Of course it wouldn't, and I'm pretty sure he and everyone else knows that.

My point is that trying to attach the proposed beneficial outcome to the motivation behind Beto's agenda or rhetoric, or any other gun confiscating politician's campaign platform is pointless. It's important to combat their bogus logic and outright lies with facts of course. I just don't believe facts have much impact on their campaign platform or promises, so trying to understand their logic is in its essence a futile effort. I rather assumed that was your point to P5 Guy also.

Robert F. ORourke is the best firearms salesman since Obummer, and a total embarrassment to Texas! He has no chance to be nominated. He is building name recognition to try for a lesser office in the future. He is hoping name recognition will work to his benefit with a uninformed/uneducated voter base.
