Mods, not sure if this is already posted somewhere so please merge if necessary. This is a new design that is going to be available soon, very interesting:

There is a loose 5-year plan for new versions of the pistol. A polymer grip for 2020, then a compact pistol that is 1 inch shorter. I am most excited about the planned IPSC Open Division version which will have a steel grip. The final version will have a full polymer frame. The team looked at chambering it in 40 S&W but with that caliber waning popularity, it is not something they plan to make any time soon.

I remember seeing something about this before, but not as detailed as the article you linked. Now, I WANT ONE!!!

Very cool looking design, was hopeful when I read an earlier article and this just sounds even better.

If I had that kind of money I'd be even happier. If it takes off in special forces and competition, I can't help but think someone would cop the design and make a more affordable knock off of similar design alá an M&P or XD line.

I would love to have one of those. Hopefully they can bring the price down significantly. I would prefer to have the polymer frame anyway.

Definitely looks cool. Interested, but at that price, maybe not so much!

Yeah - the article says $5,000. It's nice, but not THAT nice. I've been wanting a metal framed gas-delayed blowback gun but for that money I could get a Steyr GB and still have enough left over for an original SIG P210 . . . and a Glock or 2.

I don't see these selling all that well on the US market unless the price comes down. This is a $1k to $1.5k gun tops in terms of value.

I think $5k is for the all metal version but the article says there should be a progression of newer versions including a polymer version. I seriously doubt the polymer version will be $5k, but the article does say that Laugo does not want to compete with the Glocks of the world, in other words, it's not going to be a boutique gun but they aren't going to crank them out by the thousands either:

The team at Laugo doesn’t want to compete with Glock. They want to keep production numbers lower and quality high. They want to use the best materials and production methods to produce a high end pistol. The various parts of the pistol are not hand fit but the tolerances are tight. The parts are also interchangeable.

The $5000 price is for the first 500 limited editions, which comes with lots of stuff.

From the article: "A special edition Alien is available and limited to 500 units. It comes with the pistol, 1 top strap with iron sights, a second top strap with a red dot, mags, a holster and Bore Tech (my personal favorite solvents for cleaning guns) cleaning solvents all together in a nice custom padded case for about $5000."

Things in Europe are generally more expense anyway because many countries have a VAT, or value added tax. They pile on taxes at every stage of production.

I have a feeling even without the extras and without a VAT, it will stil be more than I'd be comfortable spending. But I'm no special operator. lol

It would be very interesting to see some actual measured test in regards to muzzle flip when compared to a gun of similar weight and dimensions.

I imagine that actual recoil is the same, and perceived recoil is lessened. I picture this design sending more force back straight into your hand due to that low bore axis but in 9mm the recoil will remain low. Having considered that, more powerful chamberings may actually be less enjoyable as a result.

Interesting design but a lot more money than I'm willing to spend on a pistol.

Interesting read and a fascinating design concept. Thanks for posting. Out of my price range but it will be interesting to see how that does in the marketplace. I thought that stationary slide was really innovative although it entails a more complicated design.

I have been following the Alien write-ups and think it will be a good IPSC Production gun. And USPSA if they can get it through.
$5000 sounds like a lot and at first I thought they would have to get down into the weeds with CZ which top out at $2100. Then I look at the small maker 2011s and realize there are people paying much more for pistols. They only need somebody to win with an Alien to get into the market.
I wonder if the Open version will be able to handle 9mm Major.

On the other hand, I was intrigued by the non-Browning operating system of the Strike One.
I recently got a look at its current iteration, the Archon. All I saw was another brand of Plastic Pistol. I didn't get to shoot it, maybe it feels different.

If I recall correctly IPSC/USPSA already ruled it illegal for CO as the Dot doesnt mount to the slide. No serious compeditor wants a 9mm Limited Minor gun. 5k for a production/standard pistol? LOL. So your left with Open and they better come out with a ported/poppel version or your DOA there too.

I was too and shot one.. meh.

The idea of paying even 20% of $5k for a polymer pistol is hilarious to me.

Seems like the typical "Gun Rag" review to me. "Although I didn't have.... it seems like it should shoot...."

That’s very interesting, definitely an out of the box design. I hope it works well and catches on but for 5k I seriously doubt I’ll ever even see one other than maybe at a counter. I don’t know one person that would give anywhere near that for it.

Not to mention IMO, it’s ugly as a homemade sin. I understand that’s subjective and some may love it, but I think it looks worse than a gen 1 Glock.
