I'm specifically referring to a long gun, SBR or "pistol" with a brace.

What condition do you keep it stored?

I'm still kicking around the idea of a braced pistol and am wondering if "cruiser ready", which I assume to mean condition 2, would make more sense or condition 1 as I keep the pistol on my person would be the way to go.

What do you folks that have one of these do?

I haven't done so, but in WI I can carry my AR pistol loaded in the vehicle, as my CCW allows me to do so. When I carry, obviously my handgun is ready to go.

The guns in my car are secured out of sight in a gun vault. I can only hide this with something as small as pistols. Any firearm stolen out of my vehicle could be used against the police and this is a consideration.

This my my case as well.

Just wondering what others do.

If you were to carry your AR pistol what condition would you store it in?

i tried it. i can not stand how loud a 10.5" barrel is on a .223 or 300blkout. when i tried it i ran it loaded and chambered on safety wedged in between the center console and the drivers seat.

If I felt there were conditions that warranted my keeping it in the truck (not including to and from the range, obvioulsy) It would be uncased, loaded mag in, round chambered, safety on. Under suitable cover, of course. I always have several coats and two Army Blankets behind the seats in the cab.

Often loaded but empty chamber for transport, if I am traveling to kill something, ready to go on safety.

I've considered an ar pistol for this too, but more along the lines of upper and lower seperated so they'll fit in a backpack with as many loaded mags as possible. Then it could be taken with me if my vehicle will be parked in an area thats likely to have more crime, and a backpack doesnt raise any eyebrows if i did want to take it along. Just for a worst case senario gun that would hopefully never see real use. You never know.

AR cruiser ready, but cased. If the situation warrants that I need to uncase that IN the People Mover, life has gotten VERY out of control indeed. However, if I do uncase, all I have to do is extend the stock and yank the charging handle...and wonder what in the heck possessed me to get IN to that situation in the first place. :)

Full magazine, no round in the chamber, safety off. Used to use an old hunting hoodie to cover it up in the back of the vehicle just aft of the driver seat but still within quick access. Looks like a dirty old jacket sitting on the floor.

I have an AR-15 pistol in .300 Blackout fully loaded with a 30-round magazine, round chambered, safety on, in a case with four loaded 30-round magazines on pockets on the case. Living in Arizona and being LEOSA qualified is great!

Are AR’s “drop safe” like most handguns are?

I suppose my greatest concern would be it discharging or being dislodged in an accident. Also consider if the vehicle must be towed away and you have to go to the hospital.

I don’t like leaving guns in a car for a variety of reasons but ARs can easily have a chain run through the mag/ejection port and locked to a steel component under the seat.

Not necessarily as a truck gun, but a go bag has given me comfort on extended trips.
My normal ccw gun has pretty much taken the place of my old truck gun role.
This AR pistol has take-down pins. It and three 30s fit in this toolbag.
Better to have it and not need it....

No SBR’s or pistols. But my AR’s are usually mag loaded in the well, with safety off. It’s not a protection thing. I have my 10mm 1911 cocked and locked for that. Should I need my AR, I shouldn’t be there in the first place.

Please for the love of yolanda dont carry it around on your person swinging around your neck in public, lol. Not yet anyway.

But in all candor, I bought an AR pistol for the purpose of a handi rig carbine and I was wondering about this myself. I havent brought it into the vehicle with me as of yet, still on the fence about it even though it's basically what I set out to do. I think I will just buy another, shorter, 8.5" upper perhaps. I would likely go loaded, not locked. (Unchambered).

I don't make a practice of carrying long guns in my vehicle these days (unless it's a trip to the range...) but if I did, any long gun would be in the same condition my shotgun was -all those years ago (retired out in 1995...). Weapon loaded, gun cocked with an empty chamber and safety on... That was my routine day in and day out so that anyone unfamiliar with that condition might need a moment to find the slide release, work the action, then find the safety.... No war stories at all about this - but I did lose a shotgun in a marked vehicle that was parked in front of the Dade county courthouse many years ago. It was held in an electro-lock, vertical in plain sight. A sudden strong rainstorm lasted just long enough for some enterprising soul to break into six vehicles - one of them my marked unit.... As you can guess my Department was not pleased.... That I know of that old Mossberg was never recovered...

From that day forward any shotgun in a vehicle was in the trunk - electro-lock be damned...

Nice looking arrangement you have there. Don't own any AR's but the brace for pistols is really giving me cause to rethink because to me it makes about as ideal of a truck and backpacking weapon as you could ask for (and AR is very reasonably priced right now). A standard 16" AK isn't bad as a truck weapon but the brace for pistols puts things at a different level of convenience.

Based on the threat here in rural Maine, I stash a single shot 20 ga behind the seat with 3 #3 Buckshot and 2 slugs in a butt-stock holder. Plenty of firepower should I roll in the driveway and catch a fox, bobcat or coyote making off with one of my birds or going after one of the goats. Pretty sure the pigs can take of themselves. We can't carry a loaded long gun in a vehicle here, but the single shot is pretty fast to load and I only paid $85 for it.

Nice to see a member from rural maine. I agree with the 20 gauge part. I always keep my single shot in my pick up all year long. Lots of dirt roads i drive around. Specially getting to my land on a mountain.
