M&P 40 Or Glock 22?

It is not an M&P 2.0. No I don't think it's important. Not at that price.

Thank you very much for that. I figured any updates were like most updates, mostly cosmetic. I don't need a 40 cal I would just like to get one while the prices are low. And the once fired brass can be bought off GB for really cheap prices. I like to be able to reload for anything I own and also cast my own bullets. I have sent a lot of lead down my 9mm model 39-2 barrel and its shoots OK. Not as good as a jacketed does but still usable. I was hoping the 40 would be a little more lead bullet friendly.

Just for fun I was on GB a few minutes ago and decided to look at the S&W SD40VE guns. You know, the ones that everyone likes to bash because of the trigger. I have an SW9VE and its not nearly as bad as some would have you believe. And I really like the one I have. Sometimes these are priced for give-away prices. But some of the new ones were priced over $400??? I see these in pawn shops used for well under $200 on a regular basis. Even the used ones on GB were for the most part priced way past the M&P I posted the link to. Thats strange.

The most noteworthy improvement in the M&P 2.0 is its trigger: less creep and a more tactile reset. It's sort of a moot point when most of the M&P's most strident advocates replace the factory trigger with the Apex, even in the 2.0 model.

Apex seems to have quite a following but I wouldn't know. The factory trigger never bothered me, and from what you wrote I doubt it will bother you. If it does Apex will always remain an option.

Amen to that. They are low.

My M&P has a good trigger. I feel no need to install a kit.

As far as just shooting them goes, if a friend offered to let me shoot either his full-sized M&P or full-sized Glock for the afternoon, I would probably go with the M&P.

If there's no picture, it didn't happen.

Of my cheap police trade-in 40 caliber service pistols, my Sig 229 is my favorite. I think it cost about the same as the Glock (the finish is beat up), and the S&W was cheaper than either of them by $50 or so.

These two Beretta trade-ins were even cheaper, around $200 apiece OTD.

The 96 is a frankengun with a normal Italian frame and a DAO American slide (IIRC). Apparently no one else wanted it. This one place was selling a bunch of trade-in and/or surplus 96's, and they seem to have put this one together out of leftovers. It works just fine.

I think the PX4 is DAO. I haven't shot it for a while. It's so ugly that no one else wanted it, either.

I am very happy that so many departments are dumping their 40's. I like like getting nice pistols for cheap. :)

Yes. I wish I would have bought more police turn in revolvers when they were being replaced. I could have held them and made a small fortune later. All those model 10s and 15s that could have been had for $150 or so and the model 19/66 that sold for around $200. What were they thinking?

If there's one thing I've learned from more seasoned gun owners, it's that the best time to buy a <whatever> was 20 years ago.

And that you should buy two (or more).

Both are good guns that can serve you well. I carried Glock for 23 years as an issued sidearm. Post retirement I put it in the safe and bought a M&P40 Pro that is my nightstand/range gun. (Shield is EDC) The sole reason is that the M&P is a better fit in MY hand.

Check them both out (test firing a rental if possible) and chose the one that works for you.

I have shot my buds 1st gen Glock 17 quite a bit. I like it. Its a nice pistol that surprised me with its accuracy. The same guy just bought a Glock 10mm (for bears) and I have shot it also. I briefly owned a Glock 357 Sig but before I could shoot it another friend wanted it really bad so I sold it to him. (for a profit of course:D)

So I am familiar with Glocks and think they are excellent guns. As popular as they are they have to have something going for them. But I think I am leaning more to the S&W M&P.
