Why all the craze of single stacks ?

When you really like a gun's reliability and pedigree, and it was designed as a single stack, the emphasis is on the gun: Sig P6, Russian Makarov (.380), Spanish Star BM.

For a while my only carry was the .380 Makarov, and switched to the P228 and CZ PCR as carry, because they are 9mm and are easy to conceal, very adjustable in the Remora IWB.

The only reason the 9mm Star isn't carried is because of its "cocked/locked" design and I'm a Lefty (safety lever designed for a Righty) with no 1911-style training. The P6 is somewhat pristine, and the double-stacked P228 is not.
>>If my somewhat worn P228 had only been designed as a Single stack, it would still be the main carry gun<<.

The mag. capacities (for me) have no influence on which of these are carried-if they are pretty easy to conceal, extremely reliable, and preferably 9mm.

I carried a six-shot revolver and 4 speed loaders with a five-shot revolver backup for a couple of decades. I retired last year and didn't get a semiautomatic until this year. I went a little crazy on magazines for it and it became my EDC. I found a little single stack, and, after buying a couple of spare magazines, it replaced my double stack. When traveling, and we travel a lot, the single stack backs up the "big gun." S&WModel469andMagazines.jpg EC9s.jpg

Single stack guns often fit the hand better. Especially if you belong to the half of the population whose hands are smaller than average. If it fits better it’s probably going to be more comfortable, meaning you’ll practice with it more and probably be able to shoot it more accurately. And with modern self defense ammo, 8-10 rounds is hardly under-gunned for realistic self defense situations. Plus there’s a huge ccw market that simply didn’t exist in the early ‘90s when many states were may-issue, if they allowed CCW at all. For CCW purposes most people find it hard to argue with the advice that the pipsqueak pistol you have is a lot better than the hand cannon you left at home. And 6 rounds of .380, let alone 9 rounds of 9mm, is nothing to sneer at.
