Well I am up at my dads and about to clean a few guns, found where I put my 119 buck. Think I'll give it a try this year for big game. I'm not normally a fan of big knifes but hear some like these. I've been using a mora 2000 and like it for skinning.

the 119 still has the factory edge I'll see if I can get it a little sharper with the strop. I tend to like a micro convex edge but I'll keep the original shape on this one.

So anyone like these and use them anymore?

It is a classic knife and honestly all you’re gonna need. I used to use one back when I hunted and trapped a lot in Montana. I gutted, skinned, and butchered a lot of deer, antelope, and elk with mine.

I carried the fixed blade and a Buck 110 folder as backup on group antelope hunts as there were days I helped gut and skin several animals without sharpening.

After a few years, I started carrying a ceramic sharpener and if I touched up the blade periodically, it would go a long time without a thorough sharpening.

Enjoy your classic American knife!!!

I have one and used to carry it for hunting all of the time. Over the past few years though, I've carried a smaller folding knife that's much less intrusive and easier to carry. This season, I'll be carrying a newer Buck 112 Ranger LT.

I'll never get rid of my 119 though.

I do have a Buck 119, only because my wife bought it for me as a gift while she was deployed to Kosovo with her Reserve medical unit. She asked what I wanted and I said a knife, thinking she would buy something local and unusual. She sent me the 119 she bight at the AAFES store. While not even close to my preferred shape and size it will do anything you need it to. Keeps a good edge, I used mine some on deer and it works fine.

Here's my 119. I've only owned it for a couple of years. Buck knives are not the greatest knives on the market but I think they offer good value.

I've had a 110 since the mid 70s that has taken on many tasks and keeps going.

This is my 120. I bought it new in 1982 at a gun show for $30

I'm about to commit blasphemy. I just got out my Randall Model 3 and my Buck 119. Aesthetically, the Randle knife and sheath are both nicer. Classic lines, flawless execution in the knife and the sheath. Functionally though, the Buck 119 and the nylon sheath with composite liner are both superior. Stacked leather washers are pretty but black phenolic isn't ugly. And the phenolic cleans a lot easier and takes less care over the life of a knife. No weather or storage worries with 420 HC and honestly O-1 steel has long been passed by. With O-1 blade and leather sheath, I feel like the blade needs a fresh dose of never rust every three months or so. 420 HC has better hardness and plenty of strength. As far as blade size and design, they are both so close as to make no difference at least to me.

All that said, they're both great knives and I regret not one bit owning them both.
