Hello guys,
I passed up a trade for a BCM eag instead sold a Tavor w optics for 1450.

I've already spent some of that money on a Dan Wesson 715 with 8 inch barrel and scope. It was pricey but I had to have it.

For $550 I can get a brand new Ruger 556 MPR which has some pretty nice features. It's better than their basic Ruger ar-556.

For $1,350 I could now buy the BCM eag which is very lightly used and that would include 2 420 round cans of 556 62 grain green tip ball slinammo and sling and the surefire light that comes with BCM EAG.

Money is a little tight but with some finagling I could swing either.

Is the extra money well spent on the BCM eag and what experience do y'all have with the Ruger MPR?

I figure the two 420 round cans of military ammo are worth about $350.
So my price difference on the ARs is really $450

Thanks but why would you get the Ruger?
What knowledge experience do you have with the Ruger multi-purpose rifle?
I am convinced that the BCM eag is a better rifle but not convinced it is a $450 better rifle.

Depends on your purpose. If you forsee yourself relying on the rifle to save your life on a consistent basis, I'd go with the BCM. If you're getting an AR because you want one, and it's for plinking, maybe some hunting, and possibly home defense if pressed, I'd go with the Ruger and spend the price difference on ammo and upgrading whatever you want to down the road. They way I look at it, you can always upgrade it to near the point of the BCM if you want, but if you don't NEED that then you don't have to and can spend money in other places. In any event, though, either would be a good rifle.

I do love my Rugger EmPeeArrr! No hang ups and eats what it's feed w/o complaint. I paid NIB about what you are looking at. The trigger on mine is really smooth.

Very happy with my MPR. about 7-8 hundred trouble free rounds fired. Great trigger and smooth shooting.

I would pick the following (in order to keep more money in my pocket) before spending the money on a BCM EAG:

1. Ruger AR
2. Smith and Wesson AR
3. PSA Premium CHF
4. Aero Precision AR

The BCM will be a chrome lined bore which is hard to get to shoot well. It's made for high round count shooting, and will yield more than likely around 1.5-2.0 MOA. I would save the money and get a likely more accurate rifle with the above 4 options and use the extra money for magazines, optics, ammunition, training, etc.

But different strokes for different folks.

Sounds great.
Sometimes I talk myself up to something I don't really need if the price seems fair.
And I do believe the price is fair on the BCM EAG,but the Ruger should be good enough.

What relatively lightweight scope or site would you recommend for the MPR?
I could put a red field 2x7 by 32 on it.
but I might go with something really lightweight in which case what would you recommend?

I view the firearm as only part of the package. It the case of the AR-15 I also buy at least 10 magazines, 1,000 rounds of ammunition (which you are almost there with 840 rounds), and optics (if you so desire). Then throw in accessories such as a gun case for transporting your gun to the range, sling if you are going on a walkabout and cleaning supplies. With the Ruger you have more money for these and any other upgrades that you may want in the future.

The biggest downside about the Ruger is I understand that it is more difficult to change the handguard due to the design of the barrel nut. Ruger AR owners can explain the differences better than I can.

I am not much encouragement as I like building my AR’s as I get more quality on the dollar along with being cheaper to build. In fact I just ordered another 10 30 round magazines (remember I said “at least”).

Huntolive, it really comes down to personal tastes, what works for you, what your comfortable with and the shooting you're going to be doing.

I wanted more of an AR hunting rig 1st, defense gun 2nd. What I put together came out of the December/January sales 10-11 months ago. Burris 3-9x40 scope+Weaver thumb nut 1" SPR mount =$200.00. The scope has a lighted center red dot with 10 different brightness' and turns on/off between each level, plus a lifetime warranty. Just something for low light or cutting through the murk. It makes the total package a little more heavier, but I'm not going to be competing in 3 gun either.

Looks like a good option although yeah looks like it would be heavy. Sounds like a good overall hunting scope though what's the clarity like in dim light?

There has to be at least some light; like twilight to collect enough light in the scope to make out the images you're looking at and to be able to put the dot on. A light background under a full moon helps brighten the area your looking into as well. Actually any light will work. Like shooting a skunk under a barnyard light. But if it's pitch black dark out then it's just a red dot on black.

I personally like 2-7x for an all-purpose/do-it-all AR optic (my AR currently wears a 1-6, so not far off), so I'd start out with the one you have unless it's way too heavy or is lacking features you want.
