I posted a query about which 40 to buy. Gots lots of good advice and I'm going to trade a Walther P99subcompact that was gathering dust for a PX4 compact in 40. (I had the Walther and LGS gave me a great deal on the PX4...so no cash outlay.)

And what I feared would happen, has happened. I can't have just one 40. So I'm looking for another or two. Definately a 4006TSW CHP. But am wondering what are the best deals out there.

Wondering if anyone has seen a WOW 40 price/deal they didn't take. I prefer hammer fired but would consider an M&P or equivalent but don't need a carry size, unless it was a screaming bargain. I don't do Glocks. (Don't ask....I just don't.)

Wondering what folks might have seen...and maybe a few other folks might be wondering as well. Can't hurt to have more than two eyes looking.

The surplus places have plenty of them. Kings Firearms Online is my personal favorite, but there are plenty of other places.

Here are some current offerings.

Glock 22's starting at $269. They have other grades of G22 for slightly more that have better finish, more mags, come with the box, etc.

Sig P229 for $329. Mine is my favorite police trade-in 40 caliber out of many.

I own both of these and they are both good shooters. Police trade-ins tend to be carried a lot and shot seldom. It's really hard to beat deals like these, meaning good police trade-in and military surplus deals.

Here are mine. The Glock looks pretty good (better than the picture). It came with the box and a few mags. The Sig is scraped on one side of the slide, but the slide is stainless and it's a fabulous shooter. It came with an extra mag... just one I think, and I think the box. I paid around $280 plus whatever for each of them.

Recoilgunworks in Indiana usually has a good assortment of police surplus .40’s.
I got a like new Gen4 G22 from them with night sights for $319. Transaction was smooth and fast.

Most gun shops are heavily discounting any 40S&W pistols that they get on trade or consignment; it’s probably worth making the rounds of the local shops on a regular basis to see what deals pop up.

As an example - my favorite local gun shop just sold a lightly used Glock 22 Gen4 for $295.

I agree on that. Local place had a g23 gen 4 with 9mm conversion barrel for 350. Not a bad deal. It looked like it was unfired.

.40S&W M&P police trades are sub $250 occasionally, and Glock 22 police trades are also sub $300. Both are really good guns, and if you care about it at all both have cheap/easily available .357 SIG barrels available too.

Last .40S&W I picked up was a local find Stoeger Cougar for $250. I liked the rotary barrel which is why I got it.

I went ahead and paid a little extra to get my S&W M&P in 45acp instead of 40. It is a very nice pistol. I like my Sig and my Israeli surplus Tanfoglios a little bit better, but the M&P is very nice and they were going for around $250 plus whatever.

With a little polishing you could turn that 229 Nitron into a Bi-Tone. You've already got a head start.

Oh, yeah. I should have mentioned them. I've gotten some good deals there, too.

Hipoint carbine and pistol ugly as all get out blocky but goes bang every time. Has a lifetime warranty. Both can be had under $400.00.

This year I've bought an M&P sheild and full sized police trade in, both in .40 for $279 ea from PSA. I found them on their daily deals tab. Happy hunting.

Keep checking your local Armslist. I bought a P226 for 330, and P229 for 300 in .40. The 226 was a CPO, and both were in new condition from the same seller. He also had an unfired Kahr K40 stainless with wood grips for 300 that I could not resist. Don't settle for a beater. Deals are out there.

The best thing about .40s are the conversions. Buy the cheap plastic fantastic tradein guns and a .357sig barrel for the same price as you would have paid for a 9mm. A 9mm conversion may require an entire slide and spring set but you very easily get into 3 calibers for the “new” price of the pistol.

most of the common pistols only need a conversion barrel. Glock, m&p and sig p series. So far all been flawless. With the sig i had needed a 9mm barrel. The m&p and glock i run stock minus the barrel. Never had an issue. I use it only for range work tho
