Im looking for a 1911 but I have some non traditional needs. It will be used for bullseye shooting and I'm an absolute trigger/reset snob, so I'm in the market for a great 1911 with a wonderful trigger.
Requirements:
Under $2500 all in.
Bottom rail (love reddots, hate them slide mounted)
A fantastic light trigger with a very light reset.
Would like for it to have an accuracy guarantee.

So far I'm drawn towards an sti, although I'm not after the doublestack capacity. Their race guns have wonderful triggers. Im also eyeing dan wessons and les baers. Help!

Keep an eye on this forum and buy a used Bullseye pistol.

Probably the best place to get a recommendation on a BE pistol is a forum full of active BE shooters.

What kind of accuracy guarantee are you expecting? I’m thinking that may be a tough ask.

Do you want a laser? How would you use a red-dot on the underside?

With something along these lines.

Oh.

I see now.

STI would be a good choice. I don’t play in the competition arena, but I do play in the 1911 sandbox. In your price range, you can get Les Baer and Dan Wesson. The Colt Custom Shop CQB is about $1900, but I can’t attest to the trigger.

The only manufacture you mentioned that will give an accuracy guarantee is LB. Then you will have to buy a Mount and have it installed by a gunsmith or DYI drill and tap. Mounts typically range from 70-150ish. I would look on Speedshooters to get an idea of the mount options and Crazy John is generally the cheapest for LB's.

Yep...CJ at 1911 Heaven... sub $2000 Les Baer all day long.

I purchased this second hand, barely used, and I am a happy camper:

this is a Les Baer Wadcutter, made specifically for Bullseye Pistol. It is tight, still tight in everything after years of competition. I am finally starting to shoot Expert Class scores with the thing, but I am still inconsistent. Had three in the ten and two in the X ring at 50 yards and still managed to fling a 6. And a couple of eights. It is not the pistols fault. As I improve, the pistol is right there.

I prefer the slide mounted optical sight to the frame mounted. Such as this:

It is easier to grasp and rack the slide, removing and installing the slide is easy because there is not a side mounted sight to mess with. There are however limitations. The first is, Les Baer warns not to use bullets heavier than 200 grain. That was a surprise because I shot ammo cans of 230 LRN before I got into Bullseye Pistol, but I can understand the concern. That sight on top adds to the recoiling weight and so the owner needs to tone down his ammunition. For reliable function and accuracy at 50 yards, my ammunition is loaded close to 740 fps. This was based on advice from shooting buds. Bullseye Pistol is all about finding the most accurate, least recoiling, reliable ammunition. Recoil leads to flinching and loss of control in timed fire and rapid fire. This load would work, thought I probably am not going to use it.

Might look into rmr slide mounted red dots also, they seem to be able to take the punishment while retaining zero..

@Slamfire

Thats good to know about the wad cutter les baer, I dont always have time to reload and like to be able to shoot factory ammo in a time crunch

Few civilian competitors shoot factory ammunition. Almost everyone rolls their own, factory ammunition is expensive. However, the AMU and the All Guard were using factory 185 grain JHP from Atlanta Arms. https://atlantaarms.com/products/products-45-acp-185gr-jhp-html/?sku=E45185JHPBX According to the web site the bullet is going 920 fps.

If you want an ultra accurate 1911, you can expect there will be limitations.

@Slamfire

Absolutely expected it, but failed to inquire about it. Im relatively "new" with centerfires, I've been a 22lr guy my entire life, but I know all about buying certain brands, and batches and learning what your gun prefers. Rimfire is a strange world haha.

It also sounds to me you are looking for a 1911 from Les Baer Custom. I have shot several and when I can scrape up the funds I want to buy from them.

I got to fiddle around with a les baer on sunday, lawdy what a nice feeling gun. One of those or a very high polished stainless colt 1911 is on my radar. At least then I'll look good losing.

So question, does les baer not do threaded barrels or bottom rails? I shot a suppressed 1911 and fell in love, but i dont have the budget to do a les baer for competition plus another 1911 for a supressor host and a supressor.

Ive looked on the site and emailed, but im sure I should call, but I feel silly not calling with cash in hand ready for a deposit on a custom

I am a Dan Wesson fan. For the price quality they are way better than I am.
no reason to pay the Les bauer Ed Brown, Wilson premium prices unless you "need the best"

Everyone has their own opinion on 1911"s

I've owned both a Baer Premier II and a Dan Wesson Valor. The Dan Wesson is the best for the money but does not shoot 1" groups at 25 yards that the Baer did (that is a standard not the 1.5" guarantee model).

LSWC Target Loads are light so a gun properly set up for them may get damaged if you don't respring for hardball.

I haven't shopped a Baer Wadcutter but it's where I would start in your price range.

I wholeheartedly endorse CJ at 1911 Heaven. He is an honest guy and will work with you to get you what you need at a fair price.

PS the only reason my Baer is gone is the DW Valor shoots better than I can and the guy that had my .404 Jeffery really wanted a Semicustom 1911.

Yes he made a Recon However, I do not believe it ever came with a threaded barrel. Course buying a threaded barrel and having a smith instal is easy enough.
