Glock who?

Glocks make me a little angry. They are physically painful for me to shoot much. I get Glock knuckle bad. It makes me mad that they refuse to build a pistol for the human hand. It's not that hard. Everyone else is doing it.
I hear you, although I don't get the Glock knuckle. But I get the Glock callus from rubbing the trigger guard from the inside.
Try Glock 43X. It's a little unusual for a Glock in the cross-section of the grip.

Having owned multiple Gen 4 Glocks and only one Gen 5 Glock, I've found the triggers on Gen 4 pistols to be wildly inconsistent in pull and feel. My G29 trigger is stock and wonderful at around 4.5lbs. The G35, supposedly a match-ready pistol, was atrocious at 9lbs and gritty. It has a (-) connector and extensive polishing to get it to around 5 lbs. My Gen 5 G19 is almost as good as the G29 and hasn't been touched.

The best/worst thing about Glocks is that there is huge aftermarket support for them. Don't like the trigger? Fine. You can easily change it to something you do like.

My problem with glock style stuff is you have to unload the gun , in order to un-cock it. (?)

I just need a way to uncock a gun, without unloading it.

I’m with OP on not being a Glock fanboy. Not because of the trigger, but I can’t stand the grip angle. So while I’m not a Glock brasher, I’d rather spend less, and get an M&P 2.0 which I fell in love with the first time I picked one up. The 1.0s were ok, but when I picked up the 2.0 I loved the aggressive grip texture. The improved trigger was a bonus and the removal of the beaver tail just made a nice looking gun super nice IMHO.

And that’s another thing. I think Glocks are butt ugly. Yes they’re reliable. But compared to so many other guns they’re just blah.

In my case I have a 5” which I love and my next one will be a 4” Compact. So I guess I’m now an M&P fanboy. Lol

Anyway, if someone loves Glocks, then I say good for them. I won’t criticize their choice. But I’d ask them to compare the Glock to the M&P and see if they can tell me where the Glock is better and where the M&P is better. And if you like another brand then substitute that. For instance my ex was a Sig fangirl. So what’s better about Glock than a Sig and Vice versa.

So the bottom line is buy what you like. Or if you’re like Gunny then buy all kinds of brands and stuff. But don’t bash someone else’s choice except in good natured fun as were all on the same side!

Why?
If you start with an empty chamber and uncocked striker its the same thing, you would need to draw the slide back to cock it anyway and then it would chamber a round in the process. Decocked with a round in the chamber would be pointless as the fresh round would be ejected upon cocking (drawing slide back), is it the hammer you wish it had?

Never really experienced social finger abuse with any Glock but the little .380 blowbacks are a b****:cuss:. With that being said the gen 5 glocks have the best trigger they have yet to make.

People should not carry a gun they are not familiar with and don't take the time to train with.
But then there are people that just have funny habits like a guy I know. He does not trust any autos and only carries S&W revolvers. He also carries with the hammer over an empty chamber. I have tried to tell him that his revolver is safe to carry fully loaded, but he is more comfortable with the way he carries.
I have always said, to each his own. Find the gun that fits your needs and has the functions that you like, and be happy.

I carry a Glock every day that I'm at work and sometimes when not at work. Sitting here at my desk with a Glock Model 45 on my hip right now. But I do have other brands of guns, Beretta, Sig, S&W, just to name a few.
There are guns that look better then a Glock, but pretty is the last thing I care about when picking out a gun that I plan to carry. But fit and feel are a big factor. I much prefer the Gen 5 and 4 over the other Glocks.
But like Hokie, I like the S&W M&P over the Glocks when it comes to fit and feel. I have two 1.0 M&Ps. One in 45 and one in 9. I have a M&P9 2.0 on my short list and may get one before the end of the year.
I have plenty of guns. Some are toys and some are tools. To me, Glocks are tools, my hammer. And as Red Green would say, "There ain't nothing in this world that you can't fix with a hammer and a roll of duct tape".;)

As far as “Glock knuckle”, it never bothered me, but I have seen Glocks on glocktalk that have had radical undercuts done to them. Some appear really over the top to me, but whatever.
I bought my G26 used. When I got it, a previous owner had rounded the front of the trigger guard...I guess they didn’t like the hooked guard. A good job, looks great, and I don’t use the forward trigger guard hold anyway.
In any case, I decided to experiment on this G26, and hit it very lightly with a dremel sanding drum.
I just added an almost visually unnoticeable bevel on the right bottom edge of the guard, then hand sanded it lightly.
It did improve the feel slightly, but not enough to make me do the other two Glocks I own.
BTW, I bought this G26 from a guy who had been outrageously low-balled for two weeks, and accepted my (reasonable) offer. He sold it because he was afraid of the Glock trigger system, LOL, and that’s fine by me!
The G30 is what got me into Glocks. I was in a 1911 .45 phase, and wanted a compact carry type...
Compact 1911’s don’t have the best reputation, but I kept hearing about the G30. Found one locally, and found it to be very accurate.
But the grip didn’t agree with me, I always had to adjust my grip when I picked it up. If it were a SF or Gen4, I could have gotten along with it.
With the G17/22 or G26, they just fall into my hand and point naturally.

And this is how you know that he's either a reptiloid or re-incarnator who lived for 400 years. Old habits die hard.

I do not get Glock Knuckle, I get Glock finger Blister from the very Narrow space in the trigger guard. Nothing wrong with the gun, just not for me. Not as mild shooting as others I own. But, what I like makes no difference and should not. Not unusual for a person to want a different pool cue, baseball bat, etc. And any Competitive runner who runs in a shoe that does not fit for his personal foot is nothing but a fool.

"But like Hokie, I like the S&W M&P over the Glocks..."

That makes three of us. :)

Back in the day worked with a bunch of cops (the old heads in the early 70s) who refused to carry their S&W and Colt .38 Spl. Revolvers with a round under the hammer. Tried to tell them that the gun would not fire with a round under the hammer if they dropped it but most insisted I didn't know what I was talking about. I was just a whipper snapper:D

I just don't get the "bad Glock trigger" references. I've shot revolvers and friends' 1911 and for the life of me I don't see the night & day difference.
I point, pull the trigger, it goes "bam!" every time, and hits very close to where I aim. That's all I care about.

Dude, did you even read what you wrote? Everybody carries with a round in the chamber. I want the hammer down, uncocked. You do NOT have to chamber a round, to cock a hammer, on a hammer fired gun. With a glock, when you chamber a round, there is NO WAY TO DE-COCK A STRIKER. You have to literally unload the gun to do so.

When you load a round into the chamber, on a glock, you have a cocked striker, ready to fire, with a light single action trigger. Much like a revolver, fully cocked back into single action mode, with no safety. Not too many folks would carry a revolver like that, but they somehow believe that because the striker in a glock is out of sight, and not visible, like that cocked revolver hammer, that makes carrying it cocked
OK.

I disagree.

Well Dibbs, there’s your problem right there. You don’t seem to understand how a Glock works.

And comparing a 5 ½ Lb. Glock trigger to a cocked revolver trigger is pretty much like comparing apples to Winnebago's.

About the only thing we can agree on, is that you should carry what you are comfortable with.

Triggers are so subjective, why not just get a gun with the Trigger you like? Who really cares. I like the Beretta Nano/Carry and Kahr Striker fired DAO. Many others like a Light striker fired Trigger, many like the Glock trigger just the way it is and others like a aftermarket trigger, some folks just like Revolvers. Some folks like high bore axis, some like low bore axis. Who cares? Caliber war, size war, round count war, Trigger War, bore axis war, sight war and on and on. Just think if there was Just one gun made that fit the entire world. Every hand from a toddlers to a Goliath. Then people would have a War about that. People love wars, what do you think a firearm forum is all about? Guns? Lol, no, it is a place to go to War because People like Wars.
By the way, I am really tired of the Round Count War. Glad we were able to get back to a Trigger War. Now let's move on and get back into a good ole caliber war.

It sounds like Glock isn't the gun for you. Maybe you need to go with a TDA

Speaking of bad triggers (subjectively) for whatever reason I just despise hinged triggers.

Sure there are APEX options that are pretty nice but I never mess with the trigger on a carry/SD gun and that's what I'd want an M&P for.

Still nice guns and I do shoot them fairly well, really like that compact 2.0. except for the trigger.

This is not... entirely true. Glock's striker is only about 70% cocked, by the length of travel. We can argue if this is more or less 70% by the amount of the energy stored: the amount of the energy transferred to striker per a fraction of an inch is proportional to the force (integral of the force over the distance) and the force is greater when spring is more compressed. I think a linear approximation is sufficient for this remark. But interestingly enough, not all common striker-fired guns complete cocking when trigger is pulled. SIG, for example, does not.

I also don't like that the mags don't drop free for me. About half of mine do and half don't.

I also am upset by how well I shoot them whenever I do. Crappy trigger, ergonomic nightmare, etc. I shoot them well. And I think they look cool. And the simple, reliable, revolutionary design is absolute genius.
What generation mags do you have? The early ones were bad.

I have a Glock 19, it sits in my safe 99% of the time. As of recently it's there more because I don't trust it, it's been not going into battery after a shot not all but random. But I prefer either of my SA 9mm, an XDE or my SA sub-compact. The trigger on the sub is just right, has either 2-13 rd mags or 1-16 rd mag. I don't need anything else. Have had 11 different guns in the last 6 yrs. and I'm satisfied with these three. Even had a Ruger sr9c, Walther PPSm2, SA xds, forgot the rest. Shoot what works for you.

I have a big box of Glocks, all gen 1's and 2's in 9mm, .40, .357 sig, .45 acp. full size, mid size and compact. I've moved on. I shot them for over 10 years after 1911's. I shoot better with pistols that have better ergonomics (grip angle).

Glock is not perfection for me.

Flame suit = on
