Seen my first albino squirrel today, I only ever seen one that was stuffed for a exhibit. I was driving down a old gravel road that I use for a cut though. It kinda shocked me seeing it run across the road, wish I had a camera. Or a shotgun it was on the side of a family friends farm they probably would not have minded.

Anyone ever see one in the wild. Maybe there not very rare but I never seen one.

I checked out white squirrels years ago on the internet. There wete two colonies of them back then, some in Ohio and some in either North or South Carolinia.
I have harvested a few black squirrels in West Colesville New York over twenty years ago.

Years ago there use to be a bunch of black squirrels up on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls. We use to see them thirty years or so ago when I took my kids up there.

Like the old saying goes, (Look what you see when you don't have a gun.)

About twenty-five years ago there use to be two pied whitetail does over in Windsor New York down on the end of Dunbar Road where it ends of Route 17, i think they chanced Rt. 17 to Route 86.

The twenty years I have been out here in Washington State I haven't seen over 150 or so deer in all that time, one was a pied blacktail doe.

I've seen black squirrels but never when hunting, seems they stay in small groups. I seen a pieball doe last month. We have a few of then, I was working in Warwick about 8 years ago just a few miles from 17. There where to bucks one was a 6 or 7 the other a 10, I had a photo of that one somwhere.
You know I love 10 miles from 17 and did not know until last week when I saw the sign,

I hate to break it to you, but Olney Illinois is the home of the white squirrels. You see them there all the time. Its weird, but they're not rare there at all .
Btw, I'm pretty sure its illegal to shoot an albino anything...in Illinois at least.
Do they have red eyes like this one I seen, we get a few white raccoons around here but There not albino.

I've never seen an albino squirrel. 2 summers ago I did see an albino deer in my yard. That was a weird sight. Didn't hang around long enough for me to get my camera, though. A funny thing is about a year later, my neighbor saw an albino deer about 5 miles away. We live semi-rural. What are the odds it was a different deer? How far do they roam?

Black is a color phase of the grey squirrel that is very common in certain locations.
True, pink eye, albino squirrels (or any other species) are not common anywhere, as far as I know.

5 miles don't seem unreadable for a deer.

They are still there. I was on the NY side of Niagara Falls this past weekend and there are black squirrel everywhere. Columbus and Kent Ohio are also plastered with them and now we are seeing them around Cleveland Ohio also. Avon Ohio had a legit Albino buck for years. I believe red eyes and all and there is another one running around central Ohio right now. I saw a piebald back during the summer. It wasn't full on Piebald but its back legs had lots of white on the outside of them. I saw a pair of white squirrels years ago in the small town of Oberlin Ohio when passing through. They were sitting there in the little central park with not a worry in the world.

I used to feed this guy peanuts.

I've only seen one white squirrel. Don' know if it was an albino, but it was all white. I have seen several black squirrels, and hope to get one one day to have mounted. The black phase seems to be more common. As was said, a white squirrel in the wild probably has a low survival rate.

Blacks squirrels are totally common here in Michigan. I live in a suburb of Detroit and we have black squirrels running all around the neighborhood. The land I hunt has a few but not as many as in the city.

I've seen one in the late 70s setting in a tree about 30yrds screaming at me all morning while deer hunting, the only thing I saw that day.
I've always heard when you have piebald deer there is something wrong genetically

Had one in the woods next to the house a few years ago. Wasn't pure white but more of a very light shade of gray. So it probably wasn't pure albino. Sure was different, though. I had some pix of it but can't find them right now. I think I only saw it one season when it occasionally hit the bird feeder.

They are all over the place where I live in Columbus. Can’t drive around the block without seeing one or more. It was explained to me that they are not actually albino....just a white variation.

When I was young, my brother was touring Kent State. We were walking up some stairs on the sidewalk and I saw a black squirrel....never seen one before. I said “hey, check out that black squirrel” just as a black girl was passing us. The look I got from her! We had a good laugh about that one for years. Throughout the day, we saw dozens more....of both.

The rumor I was always told is they came from Canada. I was visiting someone in Cleveland last week and saw two in the back yard. Never saw them in NE Ohio.
