Day three of my state's Early Muzzle Loading Season, I harvested this doe. It was 62 yards, and a through and through lung shot (I like to eat the heart) using 70 grains of GOEX 3Fg and a patched .530 roundball with a .015 patch. I fired as she was walking in the open just outside of a woodlot. She went about 40 yards into the woods, and lay down in a bed of grass inside the woodlot. The previous year a large old tree had fallen making an opening in the canopy for sunlight and a grass patch had formed, which the deer now use for a bedding area. I hit her just a little higher than I wanted, so there wasn't a blood trail.
