Hey all,
Here i am in a dilema. A buddy of mine who has no interest in revolvers slipped in on an amazing deal that was supposed to be mine. A freedom arms model 83, must be an early one- serial number df 6xx. Its in great condition with a 10" barrel, he paid $700. Crazy cheap. He regularly runs low on money and said when he needs some funds he will sell it to me (i assume for what he paid). He is a carpenter and winter is coming so i expect in a couple months i'll be hearing from him. The dilema im in however is i have been saving and planning on buying a bfr in 500 jrh in january (when im allowed to buy a gun- once a year). So if you were me would you wait it out for the FA or just go ahead and order the bfr? I'm on the fence, always wanted a FA and know i wont find one that cheap again. It's a tough one.

Get the one you plan on. When he tries to sell it to you offer half and don't care if you get it. You say he is not into revolvers and slipped in and bought it. Like out from under you. Leave him with it or get it for a steal. Regardless how it ends up you will have the one you planned on to begin with. Then don't let him in on your shopping. It will just happen again. I'm sure he got a chuckle out of his power grab. Colors shined through. He'll flash em again.

You don’t mention the chambering if the FA. Is it .500 JRH? If not, and you want a .500 JRH, I wouldn’t be too keen on the FA even for that good price.

Plus your “buddy” might be someone who you don’t want to know anymore unless wacky antics like this are how you show show the love.

Willing to bet it’s a .454...

FA never produced a .500 JRH, but did produce a .500 WE - ballistic twin with a belt instead of a rim.

It wasn't really a matter of the guy doing me wrong . Not to get too far into the weeds, he bought a like new condition (semi auto) tommy gun with some extra barrels and a bunch of mags from a guy for $500 a couple months ago. I was jelous and asked if he had any other deals , sounds like a reasonable guy. He said hes got a 454 casull and a romanian ak and some other stuff but didnt know make or any details except the 454 was excessively long and a SA. i knew it could really only be one thing. I told him to call the guy up i want to come check it out, turns out he wasnt in need of money but my buddy said next time he hears from him we would be in contact. Few months go by and he tells me he bought the 454 and confirmed the maker as i suspected and just left it at he was at his friends house and he offered him $700 and his friend accepted. I know without a shred of doubt within 6 months ill be able to get ot from him, im not mad if i can get a FA for under $1000.

Sounds like you know this guys habits pretty well.
Wait for what you want.
If, you want a FA more than the BFR, wait.
If, you want the BFR more than the FA, buy it!
If, you want both....Buy Both!

Sadly my better 7/8ths has laid down the law, regulated on my sorry butt and demanded a maximum of 1 gun per year. Both are not an option. I already load 454 casull so i would need little to nothing to get started. The 500 jrh i have nothing for, but if it isnt this year ill get it next year.

Well, being one that believes a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush i would ask my friend outright to sell it to me. There is no guarantees on some people’s promises. If he says no, he will wait then order the BFR you want and be done with it.

I say this because so many times in my life people have promised “to give you first shot at it if I ever sell it” only to be sorely disappointed when I find later that they got a “smokin’ deal” by selling the motorcycle, gun, car, that they promised me if they “ever sold it”.

It sounds to me like your friend might perhaps be “squirrelly”. (No offense meant, just going by what I read). Go for the sure thing. You will probably be happier.

Nothing wrong with a 1 gun/or policy. I loosely follow that rule myself, however it isnt chiseled in stone.
It makes you think about what you really want.

I would also wait it out but I would only offer him $500. I know you said he didn't do you wrong but in your OK you and he slipped in on your deal. Clearly you feel he did wrong.

Put $500 under his nose and feel better lol.

A BFR will still be available if the FA deal doesn't come along in a time you can deal with. I have shot both, the FAs are exquisite, the BFRs are very nice. Either would serve you well. Which one do you want more?

I really like the bfr for not having to worry about banging it up a bit. I have lusted after a freedom arms for so many years though, so honestly either is ok. My hesitation on the bfr is that i doubt a FA revolver will fall in my lap easily and i am kind of a 454 casullaholic. Life is good when your biggest concern is which beautiful revolver to get

I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old , both daughters. Plus my wife is frugal. It is a fair policy enacted 6 years ago when i bought a 6" gp100 and a mk3 within a week - kind of overstepped.

Get the FA but make sure it's a square deal, get a firm commitment.

Get the Freedom for your daughters sake :) it will be worth more than the other option 10 years from now. Also a .454 is better than the .50 you named unless you go on really big, like buff hunts regularly ! >454 is about the top of reality for a heavy handgun unless you hunt very big things often, get real.
