I decided to move a safe queen to greener pastures and listed my vaquero on arnslist. Wholly molly apparently i have committed revolver adultry because the previous owner modified it with a squared trigger guard, rounded the butt and installed a super black hawk hammer. 15 emails arrived within 8 hrs of posting berating me for such a hideous monstrosity.

Thanks armslist firearm police. Now its no longer for sale. Im going shooting..

Why is it the cardinal sin to mod a revolver but manfitory on others?

Some people are more than happy to tell others what to do with their belongings or money.
I own a couple Vaqueros (I have owned 7 over the years) and Vaqueros are not “collector items”. And even if they were, it’s your gun, not theirs. I would tell them to pound sand and move on.

By the way, that is a very nice revolver and I like the trigger guard mod. Perhaps those nimrods didn’t know that a Super Blackhawk Hammer is a desired mod by those that shoot single action revolvers one handed...the way old west guns are meant to be fired. ;)
That ain’t a Colt SAA and even if it were I would still tell them to pound sand.

If I were in the market for another Vaquero I would definitely consider buying yours. It’s unique and it looks cool.

When you get down to it, all guns are just bits of metal and springs and wood/plastic. Their value is totally up to the owner. A collector may value a rare pistol at $5,000 due to some academic or historic factor. A rural Indiana melon farmer might toss it in drawer and forget about it since it's not minute of bunny from 20 yards off the side of a tractor. One person has put a mathematical value on the stats of the gun. One person finds it worthless because it couldn't help him keep money in his pocket.

For me, if a gun or knife is too "valuable" to shoot or modify to my needs to enjoy using it to do what it was built to do, then it's not for me. Or better yet, I still end up shooting/cutting with it and let the haters cry in their Cheerios. My money, my tool, my choice. Bits of metal and springs and wood/plastic.

Beats me! I actually like the "look" of your modified Vaquero. I'm sure some purists might object to my highly polished stainless Vaquero with it's Bar-S Tru-Ivory grips but I could not care less what they think about it. It's mine and I love shooting it!

Now go out and enjoy your Vaquero!

Couldn't agree more.
Your gun, you do as YOU want and to heck with those who don't like it.

It was a safe queen before, now its a custom turn of the century Single Action Army.
It's your gun and more power to you. Shoot it and enjoy it. But...it is in no way a "Single Action Army" or even a good copy of one.

I put a Black Hawk hammer in my Vaquero...Much easier for me to cock the hammer. I think the trigger guard is a good idea too,not a lot of knuckle clearance on stock trigger guard.

I like it a lot. Part of the reason I don’t have a vaquero is that the grip felt funny to me. Perhaps the toned and tuned grip would suit me better. I definitely like the square trigger guard. I would have kicked the tires and tried to get it for 350 then see where we settled.
