It's a (blush) Heritage RR, the bird's head model. I've lusted for a bird's head 22 rimfire revolver for years and finally decided a Single Six just ain't happenin", not in my lifetime anyway. I know they made some in the past but I've never seen one and don't expect them to make anymore so HRR it is. The weatherman is promising the nasty weather we're having is going to be gone Saturday so I intend to work in a little range trip Saturday afternoon to give it it's first workout.

No need to blush. I have a couple of Rough Riders although not the bird's head model. They are reliable, pretty accurate and a LOT of fun. A great plinking revolver. And as clunky as that manual safety is for experienced shooters, it makes for an excellent teaching tool.

I love all 4 of mine. 1 birds head 3.5 inch, 2 plow handle 4.5 inch and a 1993 vintage 6 inch. Hard to beat inexpensive, reliable, and accurate all in one package.

You beat me by a day. I picked mine up on Friday ('Johnny Boy' 6.5" combo). I hope you got to shoot yours today! I've only fired mine once out the back door with a CCI CB Long just so I could hear it make some kind of noise. I don't know if I'm going to get a chance to shoot it this weekend.

I wouldn't be blushing about the brand... too many people have been enjoying them for some good cheap fun and/or utility.

The "blush" thing was kind of poking at all the people that start hollering about saving up and buying a single six when someone mentions wanting a HRR. I already have a single six, one of the old ones that only came with a 22LR cylinder because the 22WMR hadn't showed up yet. It's a great pistol and a bunch of pests have ceased to to be pests because of it.

I made it to the range today with the HRR. Nice little shooter with a very nice trigger. It's deadly on Dr. Pepper cans at 7-8 yards, even when using some crappy dynapoints that won't cycle a semi-automatic reliably. The only thing about the gun that I could gripe a little about is that the loading gate is very easy to bump shut when loading but that's easily learned how not to do. I'm spoiled by the Rugers I own that don't do that I suppose. I'm happy with it and I'm pretty sure I know an eleven year old girl that's going to enjoy shooting it too. To sum up my thoughts about the pistol, if you have any Dr. Pepper cans or even Coke cans that are giving you problems get one of the pistols. It even put a caliche rock out of it's misery today and they are much tougher critters than the cans.

I've got one, in addition to the "regular" 4.75-inch plow-handle one. Makes a great yard/trail gun, though the plow-handle is more comfortable in hand. Enjoy it..!

i have a $200 new hrr 4” 9 shot 22lr/wmr. it’s perfectly ok as a new, not used, budget gun. i feel less comfortable shooting 22wmr through it than through the more robust ruger ss. i’ve found decent used rss for $250-300 online, plus my new $179 ruger wrangler, make the case for a hrr less compelling. still i wouldn’t fault any puchase of the hrr, especially just a 4” 22lr at black friday prices, by a newbie or cash strapped buyer, or for a stash or kit or toolbox gun. the funny thing is too, a single action 22 revolver always hops into my range bag when i go out to shoot.

doubleh,

How did your barrel look after shooting? How did it clean up?

I got to the range with my new RR Johnny Boy 6.5" 22LR/22WMR combo. I cleaned and lubed the revolver before the range trip. I fired 12-shot test groups at 25 yards, shooting with my wrists on a rest, with Winchester Super-X, CCI Standard Velocity, Federal bulk box, and Eley Target .22LR ammo. It liked the CCI SV and Eley Target best.

For .22WMR, I tried Winchester Universal bulk box (plated bullet) and three jacketed bullet loads: Winchester Super-X gray box 40 gr. JHP, and two different CCI MaxiMag loads (40gr. FMJ and HP). The Winchester gray box shot best.

My eyes are too old for handgun sights but I was getting most every shot in the black at 25 yards with the ammo it liked (NRA Timed and Slow Fire 20-yard pistol target: 3.75" diameter black section).

I probably shot a total of around 200 rounds. When I got home to clean it, the barrel showed some leading. I brushed it for 50 passes, then wet the bore with Hoppes and let it sit for a few hours. More brushing and patches showed lead still coming out. I repeated this a few more times, then tried a worn .22 brush wrapped with some ChoreBoy. Lead is still coming out. I can feel and see slight roughness about an inch down the bore from the muzzle and also feel a loose spot about halfway down the bore.

I don't expect much for $150 and I'm very happy with the accuracy. I'm just bummed that I've spent hours trying to get the bore clean (and haven't yet succeeded!)

The bore on mine is great. Smooth and shiny and I had no leading. I haven't shot it with the WMR cylinder yet and don't know that I will. If I could have got one with out the magnum cylinder I would have. I tried but no cigar. Out of stock including at the factory.

Sounds like an excellent little revolver. Any gun you can enjoy shooting is an excellent gun to own!!!
