For years I focused my attention on post war "pinned" Smith and Wesson revolvers, military rifles and pistols and put together a decent collection. Anything manufactured after 1980 really didn't peak my interest.

Things took a turn about seven years ago when I had the opportunity to shoot a Kel Tec PMR 30. Say what you want but thirty rounds of rim fire .22 WMR wrapped in a lightweight polymer frame is, to me, truly innovative. Due to demand it took me two years to finally get my hands on one. I added the carbine version, CMR 30, a couple of years ago and also have the SUB 2000 9 mm carbine which IMO is also an innovative firearm.

After that I sort of "branched out" into a new world, for me, of firearms. Next up was a FN 5.7. Not really innovative but it sure is an awesome pistol. For the last couple of years it's been AR 15 type pistols and pistol caliber carbines but I still keep my eye out for old school revolvers.

As an elderly gent I know I may be behind the curve on a what's new or popular in the firearm world. For example I had to have my LEO son school me on the .300 AAC Blackout round. Knew nothing about it.

My favorite advertising slogan is "Buy one and get one free". It may be two for the price of one but it sure ain't free

Can-t waint to see the New Rockwell Turbo High Capacity 9mm coming out next year at the Shot show. No more side fumbling, or sinusoidal depleneration.
The Old Polymer grips will be replaced with base plate of pre-famulated amulite surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings are in a direct line with the panametric guide rod. consisting simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling is prevented. The turbo-encabulator has now reached a high level of development, and it’s being successfully used in the operation of novertrunnions. Moreover, whenever a forescent skor motion is required, it may also be employed in conjunction with a drawn reciprocation dingle arm, to reduce sinusoidal repleneration.” The Rockwell will hold not 12 but 13 rds of 9mm ammo and only weigh 6 oz.

Reports across the country have gun enthusiast lined for Pre-orders at local gun shops.
The Pistol is a revolutionary GAME CHANGER.

The Turboencabulator is very, very old technology, it was first introduced in 1944 in the British Institution of Electrical Engineers Students’ Quarterly Journal. By 1962 it was in General Electric's catalog:

Yeah, calling everything a game changer is about like the marketing use of the term "tactical" or "mil spec". Another pet peeve of mine is the term "professional grade" as it is applied to everything these days.

I really have to laugh at guns called "Pro" model. Every newbie wants to be a Pro. And obviously a Pro model would be a much better gun than a amateur model. More intelligent and skillful people are Pro's, Face it, only a wuss would not choose a Pro model.
And of course, it makes for more macho talk around the Water Cooler at the office. "Oh, you have the amateur model, yep, I carry the Pro OF COURSE!

Glow in the dark butter, anyone?

This had to be from the WW1 era when Madame Curie was killing herself with X Rays:

I think this is from mid 19th century. The thinking goes, bears are hairy, therefore if you are bald, bear grease will grow your hair.

Obviously they ran out of bears before anyone grew hair, but marketeers were only catering to what the public wanted.

This sold cars.

Volkswagen engineers are so environmentally conscious, they sprouted wings! Estimates I have read indicate that thousands will die from inhaling all the pollution that came from these vehicles, when the defeat devices those angelic engineers installed, activated. But never fear, Volkswagen is even more profitable than before that kerfuffle.

Introducing the Bravo-Mike, Professional Elite Rapid Response Operator Weapons System. This will change everything! By infusing features and technology from current mil-spec systems like the US M256 120mm anti-tank gun, the M777 155mm howitzer, and the M224A1 60mm mortar, we at Lysander Engineering have developed this game changing weapon, a perfect fit for those Homeland Defenders that need to be able to rapidly (under 60 seconds) deploy locally in the event of attacks on liberty and freedom.

The Bravo-Mike, Professional Elite Rapid Response Operator Weapons System uses a smooth-bore just like the Army's current Main Battle Tank, with its superior accuracy, this bore technology also ensures that the projectiles remains uniform, rather than being swagged in a uncontrolled manner by the rifling. Further, the barrel uses a permanently obturated breech, to eliminate gas leakage and ensure superior safety. The ammunition used in the Bravo-Mike is truly REVOLUTIONARY, the bullet is a half-caliber ogive, zero cylindrical length, hemispherical boat-tail, which provides remarkable stability under all conditions and uniform aerodynamics. The propellant is a ‘green’ proprietary blend of natural fuels and oxidizers that have been used as rocket fuel in the past. The Bravo-Mike is a true caseless cartridge, using a fully consumable cellulose based environmental barrier to contain the projectile and propellant for ease of loading. The cellulose environmental barrier also doubles as a bore-rider/sabot and aids in forming a gas seal. The ignition system for the cartridge is a REVOLUTIONARY external system. A silicon-oxide flame initiator is rapidly moved against a hardened steel spark catalyst causing a spark event to precipitate into, and ignite, a bed of pre-positioned propellant. The flame from the propellant bed is then transmitted through the ignition propagation vent to the interior combustion chamber of the barrel and ignites the main charge. The ignition propagation vent also acts as to stabilize the combustion chamber pressure by venting off excess pressure away from the shooter. Since the breech is permanently obturated, forward loading is accomplished with the assistance of the Rearward Advancing Motion Rod©, which is stored immediately below the barrel when not in use.

Further, this technology is so radical, the Bravo-Mike, Professional Elite Rapid Response Operator Weapons System is not classified by the BATF as a firearm and can be made is SBR, suppressed, and even fully-automatic* mode without registration or a tax stamp.

Design specifications and images available on request.

The big box home improvement stores make all manner of sales by advertising tools as "pro" models.
The tool makers make some scratch by selling some of their stock to the big box stores, as well.
Back when I was a framer, I bought my Senco framing guns from, que suprise, Senco, not a big box store. Mind, I owned 16oz framing hammer, too--the distinction was I knew when to use one, or the other. The number of people surprised to seem me approach plumbing issues with only slip-joint pliers remains amazing. If the tool works, you use it. Sigh.

And, just who would be a "professional" gun user? William Bonney? Pat Garret?
Ok, there are some legit "pros" out there--Clint, Jerry, etc. Their gear tends to be unique--but so are their skills. If you handed me Kristen Joy Weiss' tricked out .22, there's no way I could get out of it what she does (I just don't know that much Yoga [:)])

Brown Bess?

The game changer from Armageddon gear did in fact change the game.

And the S&W 3566 was an attempt to change a literal game too.

I suspect that I could easily change the nature of many types of game if I utilized the Armageddon Gear thingy properly. Starting with small and large game, and changing them to dinner!

At the Movie theater-"For a dollar more you can get the large". Does not matter that you just paid $6.00 for regular size which is a large. I guess some need a gallon of soda.

Pay a dollar more for the large and you will need a larger belt size!

The one that I have always hated is the various items encountered at gun shows and other places that are "special ops issued", "used by the SEALs", and so on. I remember a watch marketed by various magazines (American rifleman?) That was/is supposedly an issue SEAL watch. I was on active duty with this community for over 2 decades at Ft Campbell and Ft Bragg when people were trying to convince me to buy this crap. I would always say something like "I'm in such-and-such unit right now- I wonder why I haven't gotten mine yet"?
