Ace Hardware in GA

Never seen guns sold in a hardware store before; however, I have not entered an ACE hardware in probably 10 years. Did go into a drug store many times that sold guns in UT.
When I was in college in Fulton, MIssouri in the '70s, the local hardware store sold guns and ammunition. I remember them having a stock of Carcanos.

We even have a drug store that sells guns.

Ace Hardware stores are independently owned and vary quite a bit as to what they carry. Few carry guns, not that they are opposed to it, but there is just too much competition from the many dedicated gun shops. You'll probably only see this in smaller towns. The biggest hardware store in town (pre Home Depot and Lowes) used to be THE place to buy firearms locally. My 1st 2 guns were bought at hardware stores. Of course this was in the 1970's.

We also have several really big stores located around the state that will sell much cheaper, hardware stores can't really compete. Academy has several locations, BPS has 4 stores if you count the one 100 yards inside the TN state line and there are 2 Cabelas and several big stores in the Atlanta area.

I don't believe the ACE around us stocks guns, but the Fleet Farms have a healthy selection and the other local store ...Charlie's something has a decent selection too.

That one used to have less guns but they often had odd or neat used ones (one that I'm still kicking myself for not picking up) but since they expanded it's the usual case full of Glock/Taurus/S&W some deer rifle and shotguns and a few AK and ARs nice, but not as niche. Now I gotta go about 45 mins to get to the store that has neat used options

Don't know of any hardware stores that sell guns but I can still remember Woolworths (my Mom always called it the "dime store"), having a fully stocked gun department in one of their stores at the mall! I distinctly recall it was 1973 as they had the Colt Centennial Single Action Army and the Frontier Six Shooter in the display case! Wow, were they ever beautiful!

We have an ACE Hardware, about 15 min from here, that has a great selection, of guns and ammo. I enjoy walking through, and have found some good finds there. There are 2 glass counters, full of the pistols and revolvers, that get my attention, as they take in some nice used stuff.

When I lived out West there was a regional chain called Long's Drugs. You could walk in the front door and take a left and buy a gun, go around the corner to get reloading supplies, then back to the back corner for a bottle of your favorite whiskey and then to the pharmacy for your mood meds - all in one stop.

It is common in my area. There is a ACE Hardware Store that has a gun department. I rarely go to that store so I can not comment on it’s current selection of guns but in the past it has a fair slze department.

There are a couple Atwood’s Home and Ranch stores that carries guns and ammunition but the departments vary a lot. One of them the Gun Department is crammed into a small area and poor selection of guns.

The other one is well stocked with a large inventory of firearms and ammunition. The department is clean, has good lighting and has good sales. I was there last week getting grain for my pasture pets and they had Ruger EC9s on sale for $189.00. It is on my buy list but alas I overspent my gun budget in October.

I am told that a True Value Hardware Store in Howard, Kansas has a good gun department. They have a website with a lot of guns. I am also told the town has a good fishing lake. Somehow I need to make a road trip for guns and fresh fish next year.

The only thing gun-related that my local Ace Hardware carries is a selection of "gun screws." These are mostly scope-mounting screws and filler screws for when you remove the scope. (Actually those are quite useful. They're domed so they don't go below the surface of the receiver.)

Last time I was in Tomah, WI, the Ace there carried a nice selection of both handguns and long guns. Even commented to the manager how nice it was to see.

My Pop’s first deer rifle was a present from my Mom, a 99 Savage in .300 Sav, and it came from Woolworth’s in the Midway area of St Paul.

I was on vacation in MI 2 years ago, back in the woods. Not far away was a combination supermarket, with an entire wall of different kinds of jerky from about 15 different animals that they made on premises, plus a liquor store section, hardware store section, and sporting goods section that sold guns. All in one large store.

Not inexpensive, but the best jerky I've ever had. The Dublin General Store in Wellston MI.

From their site:
"Here at Dublin Jerky, we offer 70 varieties of Jerky all made in-house. You'll find Beef Jerky, Turkey Jerky, Chicken Jerky, Pork Jerky, Buffalo Jerky, Venison Jerky, Elk Jerky, Alligator Jerky, Kangaroo Jerky, Wild Boar Jerky, Rabbit Jerky, Pheasant Jerky, Duck Jerky, Ostrich Jerky, Antelope Jerky, Snapping Turtle Jerky, and even Python Jerky. We use the highest quality meats as well as the highest quality spices available. This ultimately give you the tastiest jerky you'll find anywhere. What everyone loves about our jerky is how tender it is. We also smoke our jerky with real wood to give it that perfect flavorful consistency. One more thing, NO MSG. We don't add any MSG to any of our products. We feel that once you try our jerky, you will be hooked."

I bought up the last boxes of .257 Roberts 117 gr RNCL from the Coast To Coast hardware store in Carson City Nv before they closed. Their selection wasn’t too bad back then.

There was a Shell gas station on Hwy 101 that had a tiny mini mart that sold ammo (no guns) when I lived in Eureka, Ca. I always loved the boxes of bullets sitting next to the cigarette rack behind the register .

Sadly, those are all long gone memories now.

Nearly every hardware store around here used to sell guns, but now none of them do. I have several guns that came from Western Auto.

For those who didn't know, Sears and even J.C. Penny used to sell guns also. My Winchester 94 came from a JCP Labor Day Sale in 1978. It was $94 out the door (regularly $120 + tax).

The first ACE selling firearms I remember was in a small town near where I work. The next I saw was in Washington. This one was N. GA.

I picked up a box of 147gr 9mm XTPs from Hornady while I was in there.

Back in June I was on a prairie dog shoot in north western Nebraska. In Chadron, NE is an ACE hardware store that had an impressive selection of long guns and hand guns.

One of our local Ace Hardware has sold guns for many years. I've purchased a couple there. When I was a kid, the local hardware was where you got your first BB gun, then a .22 and your first shotgun.

I remember that Coast to Coast store as I lived for over 20 years; the Long's Drugs I mentioned above was also there on highway 50. I found a MEC 28 gauge conversion kit in that C2C that the new owners found in the back and didn't know what to do with it. $10 later and it was mine.

A local auto parts store sells guns in my town. Very few in stock but they are a Davison’s Gun Genie dealer and I assume that’s where most of their firearm business comes from.
