I've been a fan of the show since it started, in part because it shows folks using firearms for legal and appropriate purposes. I get a good laugh out of some of my relatives that think this show is among the worst on television because it depicts hunting as a normal and routine thing, which they think is awful even though they eat meat all the time (I guess you can ignore that the meat came from a living animal when you buy in wrapped in plastic at a supermarket). But after so many season, even I am getting tired of the dialogue which never really changes, and the realization that much of what is shown has been staged. I would never want to live the life that some of the show's "stars" get to live, but I do find it fascinating that in the 21st century there is still that possibility of living as a "hunter gatherer". And for some reason, I just get a kick out of that crazy old lady Sue living alone at her camp at Kavik above the Arctic Circle.

I'm going to move this to hunting, let's focus on those aspects or the thread will get an early lock!

I like Sue and the guy who takes his kid with him. I just fast forward through the rest. I used to watch the guy alone by the lake but not so much since he is back to getting citified.

You mean the "illegal" muskox??

IF, I had done that, I'd still be in jail, OR still paying the fine!

Are you sure that your local regulations and the regs that pertain to a native hunting on a sustenance license in Ak are the same?

I’m guessing they might not be?

Sue bugs me, her story is full of made up drama. Other than that the show is pretty good, Hailstones, the younger trapper, the dog team guy, and the guy alone by the lake are all pretty good entertainment. Haven't watched it in quite a while though.

I didn't see that entire episode, but didn't he call fish & game and explain what happened? I thought I saw where they took the meat from him and donated it. Cost him his tag and meat for his family.

This is the first I've heard of this show.
I've tried watching meat eater on Netflix, but was quickly burned out.
Other hunting and sustenance living shows all turn to garbage after one good season.

I woke up to -7° today. Makes it hard to watch a show called "Life Below Zero". But when I'm in the mood, I enjoy it.

I'm sure it was illegal, did you even see the show??

DM, I’m sure that I have not seen that episode.

The question however was valid, not snark. Having lived in the exact same area Chip lives in I can tell you most definitely the regulations for a native sustenance hunter are different than your local recreational hunting regulations. That includes the methods of take, bag limits and species legally taken.

I’m just saying that having lived in the Northwestern Arctic of AK you’d be shocked at what native hunters are allowed to do in the name of sustenance hunting. It’s not the same as Sport hunting at all.

If he in fact broke the law then shame on him.

Yeah those two were my favorites as well but I believe they have run their course.

Pretty much. On the Last there is newer young guy that has a plane, built his really nice cabin and is trapping the areas left to him by Bob (and his dog Ruger:)) He was a character!

View the episode and get back with me...

I also have spent a LOT of time up there, I've seen many things there that would turn the stomach and pizz off most of readers here!

Is it the episode where they have a broken .54 cal muzzle loader and a shotgun?

I like Sue. I guess a Grizzly did get her and mess her up a bit so she's constantly talking about "something" being after her. Regardless if you like her or not, she's a go-getter. If something need to be done she's going to get it done. I also read that she makes half a million dollars a year and if that's true she's smarter than the average bear.
