As Kenneth Mills Tucker was driving down the road, he sent out a tweet “Out with the gang Dooney Wayne n’ Roll what’s going on tonight, my last weekend as a teenager!”(Younge), Little did he know this was going to be his last weekend ever. Kenneth and three other friends were driving through the night in his 2002 green Honda Accord. They were along a road on a residential area in northwest Indianapolis, when bullets flew across the night sky making loud noises on that quiet night. One of those bullets ended up in Kenneth’s chest, he was lying motionless in the grass one hundred feet away from the others and the car. Kenneth was killed at three A.M. in the morning. The car had been flipped on its roof and the other three friends in the accident were badly wounded but fortunately, were not killed in this crazy night (Ebscohost). There are several problems in the US as it relates to guns. One, guns are easily obtained. Two, many people are able to get them. Three, there are many situations where guns are just not needed. Why did the person who killed Kenneth even have a gun? Why did he have it out firing it into the night? Although what happened to Kenneth was terrible, he was not the only one who died November twenty-second. Seven others were killed that cold night. Now it’s time to look into possible problems that cause this to happen. Numerous deaths a day in the US are caused by handguns. Since, hand guns are easy to get, maybe by having them only available to hunt or

target practice or people having to meet requirements, (Elibrary). Might lower the amount of handguns available in the US.

The problem that the US has right now is that guns are way too easy to obtain whether it is purchasing one in a store like Wal-mart or a local gun shop. Consumers can purchase guns online like ebay or other websites. In this article, “NBCNEWS,” the author Patrick J. Charles states that, “people can buy guns online and even sometimes in their local store”. He also states that forty percent of the time consumes do not have to show proof of registration, permits, or licenses to purchase guns. This means people who are not qualified, trained, or allowed to own a gun can find loopholes in order to purchase firearms. This is a huge problem in the US. It is possible to purchase a gun without a background check, which means a convicted felon can obtain a gun. This affects everyone who lives in the US, whether it is in a safe low crime area or a high crime area, all citizens in the US are affected by this issue. To pull some facts about this and what is caused by this issue. Seven children on average a day are shot by a gun and killed which helps lead to the US being number one in the homicide rate of the world, this is even over countries that are in war and poverty (ebscohost). That is insane! To think that the US is the number one country in homicide and most of it is caused by guns. Another thing that affects the US that involves guns is our trending school shootings, which deeply affects communities, adults, children, and teens. School shootings occur from people who obtain guns without any requirements, background checks, or licenses. When you hear on the news about multiple school shootings do you ever wonder how some of these people obtain their weapons ? It is easy; they might have just purchase these guns online without proving anything to make sure the person

purchasing this is trained to have it. That is why sometimes on the television when you see the shooter, they can look younger than you might think because it is so easy to get these guns. Do you want your kids going to school knowing people can obtain these weapons so easy ? Reports say that, seven a day die from guns and that is just counting the children. To include the adults the number would be higher. Now it is time to look into a possible solution that can help this problem.

Possibilities that can fix this huge gun problem that we have in the US right now. The first solution we could use is how Germany deals with its gun problems. Every gun in Germany that citizens purchase has to be verified and has to meet the requirements to obtain these guns, so no more online purchases and no more local stores selling. They know this person and can purchase this gun (Elibary), “Germany permits the ownership of certain firearms, so long as in individuals meet the requirements for the firearms ownership licenses, which includes that the applicant be age 18 or older and have expert knowledge in handling firearms. And have necessity to possess such firearms.” This fixes part of the problem having requirements and being verified. This also makes less people able to own guns, therefore, less guns (NBCNEWS). This proves there is a way of helping fix the problem. By showing what other countries do to decrease their homicide rates and their gun crime and violence, the US can adopt this strategy. I think it would work it, it would just take time. After a while we would start to see changes in the US, the gun violence, crime rate, and homicide rate would start to decrease. Slowly, we would no longer be in the number one spot for homicide, which no one wants to be at with their country. The second solution I found, that could just be as effective if not better than Germany’s solution. Is Canada’s

solution. Canadian residents can only have guns when they go hunting with a license during season or go out for target practice with a permit to get in a few rounds in. A quote from Elibrary, “Canada permits the possession and use of firearms for competitions and target practice, but it forbids the possession of handguns unless an individual can show that a handgun is needed for self-defense.” However, when they have completed the activity, Canada takes back your weapon(s) out of possession. This works for Canada; because citizens own their guns that they purchased they do not get rid of them, they just have to use them in certain settings. Canada is not in the top ten countries for highest homicide rate. This keeps their citizens happy, content, and less guns available. This would also workout if this system was brought to the US. Canada's gun control system would take affect a lot quicker in the US, than Germany’s solution. US citizens would still retain ownership of their firearms, however, they would turn in their guns when they are done hunting or target practicing. Both of these are excellent solutions to solve this gun problem that is presented in the US and both have proven that they be effective by not being on the top 10 highest homicide rate for their countries.

We need to spread the word around about this problem. Talking to your parents and your friends about this issue, creates awareness. We can go out in the community and spread the word about this, talk to police officers, the mayor, or the governor to see what solutions they might have. This is important to spread awareness across your community, your neighborhood, and your school about this situation. The problem we have right now is that guns are way too easy to obtain with loopholes, causing US to be number one in the world in homicide rates with over seven children killed on average a day from a gun. The solution to this problem is to make

requirements to own and purchase a gun and/or only being able to use guns in certain situations whether it is hunting or just having fun on the range with target practice. I think it is necessary to take some steps or actions to fix this huge issue that we have on our hands in the US.

I'd suggest you get to work holding inner city prosecutors to enforcing laws against illegal gun ownership and use by inner city criminals and end the revolving door policies against such activity.
Once you've got that under control, then we can have a conversation about access by law abiding citizens. It will be a short and blunt conversation.

I am of the opinion the breakdown of the family is a greater contributor to the violence experienced in the big cities than the availability of guns. There are no Dad's at home, men have many children from multiple women, and don't care for any of them. Without a father bringing in resources and authority to the family, showing son's responsibility, hard work, and goals, the kids go feral. But this is the liberal society we have. And, killers are basically unaccountable.

I understand the number of deaths due to the opioid epidemic are exceeding the number of gun murders in the US. And yet, the Sackler brothers will never be punished any more than the Gang Bangers in Chicago or Baltimore. No matter how many die, they all get Mulligan's.

So how many law abiding people are selling guns to people that aren't allowed to buy them? I reckon it is miniscule. Laws only work on people who follow them. We already have over 22000.firearms laws. We have law enforcement that isn't even as trustworthy as people who have carry permits. We have ssen the failure of law enforcement to follow through on legitimate mental health complaints. Guns are not the problem, mental health and anger issues are and until a proper way is found to solve them more laws are going to do nothing.
