Ok, I lied, Its already built.

This is another budget build (SURPRISE!)

Spikes Honey Badger Lower
Neat, got it free cause my ffl buddy felt bad for making me wait for something, otherwise it would be a poverty pony.

BCA Side charging 16" upper in .350 Legend. BCA standard fair, nothing spectacular, BUT the barrel on this one is actually quite smooth and the finish looks much better than the last one I got a few years ago.

Alpha Combat Carbine stock kit. Again nothing exciting, these are cheap and effective, fairly low play, and square shouldered pin wont collapse.

Anderson MFG Stainless Match LPK. The trigger in this IS a step up from a mill spec trigger, tho not what id call "match" quality, all other parts simply a LPK. It dosent come with the enhanced trigger guard I like but for like 40 bucks ill deal.

Stoner (cheaply sourced) .308 "competition" muzzle brake. These are all over ebay for about 4 bucks less than midway, but i was already ordering stuff for my .30-06AI savage build.

At some point im going to shoot the thing off and abuse it with rustoleum or krylon....

PICTARS!

So Ive actually had this gun out to shoot (sans brake, just a regular flash hider) a couple times, and ive got to say I like it.
I originally did a 20rnd pressure ladder for my handloads, but didnt even chorno or try sight in, just shot and checked for issues. I got to hodgdons max with no swipes or other such issues, The remington 7.5 primers i was using were cratering slightly at just over max, but edges and face looked good, so that might be a firing pin issue.

Last week we shot about 10rnds of factory FMJ, 5 rounds of 180 PPs (to chorno), and 60 FMJ, and 10 XTP 147 hornady bullets.

Zero failures besides issues with crooked bullet seating on my handloads.
Accuracy with the Burris FF3 at 100yds was about 1.5" horizontal and 3ish" of vertical stringing. Shooting at a 1" target dot with an unmagnified optic isnt really my thing....much less at 100yds. Ill try get better info with a scope later.

Recoil was surprisingly stout, perhaps a little punchier than a 6.5 Grendel/x39.
Its snappy too. Im not good at rapid fire but my 7lb AR was harder to control then my buddies Scar17 when banging away a 10rnd mag.
My .458, while about a pound heavier, came back harder but it didnt jar you as bad....I dont remember it doing that anyway....

Chrono readings were taken, and my Magspeed (pulled the hand guard and strapped it to the barrel) is in the garage, but if anyone wants the exact figures ill got get it later.
Factory 145s came in about 2100 (list 2350)
Factory 180s about 1900 (list 2100)
Handloads 147 Hornady bullets at 2350 (Hodgdon spec for this load (max) is about 2500)

Glad you gave BCA another go! That’s really pretty decent shooting for a red dot. Are you going to take it after goats and pigs?
Thank you, that's about the best I can do without a rear peep to sharpen the dot. I forgot I have a set of those on order so if they don't co-witness with my ff3, I'll switch to the trs-25 and utg medium mount which I know they do.
I've got a little Leupold that can on there also, tho I may buy the gun, its own scope in the future if the dots give me too much trouble.

It's going to be a dedicated pig gun.
I'll take it goat and sheep hunting when getting something isn't really important. Too often the only shots you get are outside of my comfortable range with an unmagnified optic.

Oh I also had no real complaints about my first BCA upper. For the cost you EXPECT some cosmetic issues. It was accurate and ran just fine.

This one just surprised me because, like most of the Anderson stuff I've used, the fit and finish are much better than one expects at the price point.

Seems like you should be able to get more velocity out of that case at least with all the promotion. Although I admit I haven’t researched the “Legend” much. Those velocity numbers are close to 762x39.

I'll grab water numbers later, but I'm running 28gr of powder behind a 147. I use 28-30 behind a 123 in the Grendel, and I'd have to go look, but I THINK 28 or so behind a 124 in the x39.
velocity from the Grendel and x39 is about 2400 with the same 20" barrel.

Hardly scientific, but best info i got.

The X39 and Grendel will shoot slipperier bullets tho, the 147xtp has a bc of .21 or so, not sure what the other legend specific bullets have. The grens 123s are in the .5s

Excuse my ignorance of the 350 Legend but that is a 556 bolt face and straight wall from what I’m reading, correct?

They should have some issues with people reloading that as it will reference off the case mouth. Reloader's are going to have to do a good job on their trim lengths.

yeah, its a very slightly rebated case, with some taper, sort of like a really long (and rebated) 9mm.
My reloads werent fantastic by any means, lengths varied from 1.705-1.725, and i need to shave my shell holder (or seating die) to crimp at the correct 1.70, anything under 1.71 wasnt getting any crimp at all.

Oh and by the way you crack me up, for someone who admittingly doesn’t care much for the AR platform always comes back around to you from time to time. It must be soothing tinkering time in between your more in depth builds.
Yeah, I keep falling into these builds....and admittedly I LIKE building ARs, they are easy, usually fuss free projects. I wish I enjoyed shooting them more than I do. That last one Gunny helped me with goes to the range more than most of my other builds, but still dosent get nearly the love it should.
This one has a side charger which I prefer, and launches a projectile with more oomph, but its likely only getting used for shooting pig herds and maybe for shoots and giggles on other stuff.

Pretty good shooting with the red dot. Any chance you made a dummy round with those 358s.
Well Loonwulf , there ya go scrattching the .35 itch ! That seems a more sensible way to do it to me! I wonder how fast it can shoot the 180 grain Speer Spitzer ? If it can get 2100 FPS in 16" ya really would have something !
We maybe about to find out.....Troy gave me a pretty decent selection of .358 bullets including some lights as well as some heavier options.

I havent done anything with the .358s yet. I had enough trouble getting the 147s with their boat tails into the cases straight I didnt even mess with the larger, flat base .358s. Im not going to have time to shoot this weekend but ill try load some up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one like this. I don't actually like shooting the ar platform either, but I have 2 lowers and 4 uppers built out and keep eyeballing other calibers. I think that's the appeal for me. It's a cheap platform to try out other calibers in because the barrels are cheap. if I could find a source of sub $150 barrels for a Savage or other switchbarrel bolt gun I would probably have more fun doing that. I'm toying with either a 6.8spc or a legend upper. Or perhaps an x39. Or a 358 yeti or 277 wolverine....... And as a lefty, I do love those bear creek side chargers. I add a small o ring to the charging handle hole filler screw to keep it from flopping around. I do with they finished out their interiors smoother. They have noisy machined rings inside them where the bolt runs like a ruger American. With they put that heavy billet upper in a diet too...

Thank you for the info and updates LoonWulf.
I was thinking of assembling an AR .350 Legend.Your info here helps. I appreciate it. :)

Running RCBS dies ...which have a a 356 expander which still seems to work without deforming Lyman#2, and a seater plug with a really deeply ogived cavity that aligns pointy jacketed projectiles w/o problem. ('Did grab a standard 357Mag plug and custom-epoxy the FNose profile for the SAECO & LEEs above)
Cast is where the real fun begins....:cuss:

I too found those pretty easy to control.

Not really fair to compare a .223 to your new round though.

He sure better be able to get 2100 with the 2435’s in a 16”!! I get 1900-2000 from a 7.5” Redhawk shooting that bullet - way smaller case, less powder, and way less barrel!
