Damn GunnyUSMC, I'd personally come out of retirement to have that much fun on a range! Speaking of car metal today, when I was in high school I had a '48 Plymouth. A friend had gotten a .22 rifle for Christmas and I picked him up to go shoot his rifle. He was very careless and discharged his rifle in my car. Luckily the rifle was pointed at a rear door. I stopped the car thinking I'd see a bullet hole on the outside of the door. I saw nothing, not even a small bump. The metal on that door was about a quarter inch thick. The bullet had hit that metal and just dropped straight down. Wouldn't do that on today's cars.
You are right . Today's car doors offer very little protection.
As soon as I get another person to trained to take my place, I'll be spending more time at the range.

6 yrs out here myself did over 30yrs the hard way. Took about a year to not automatically reflex look at license plates:scrutiny:. Still remember most relevant county plate #s though, some radio codes, etc

Hopefully YMMV
