Does any one else have a record of their yearly deer hunts.
I started mine in 1976 after buying a Spanish milsurp mauser in 7mm.
I didn't get a deer that year or the following even though I bought a Remington 760 pumpgun on 30.06.
In 1978, with a Bushnell 3X9, I connected with a spike buck and had missed another spike.
I kept a hand written page of years, dates, gun or bow used, buck or doe, location, approximate yardage of shot, how far a drag
At 70 years ( yes, I'm an old ass now), I can go back and relive all of the hunts I've been on.
I recorded success and missed shots.
There have been 6 years I was not successful.
I did lose a page from 2001 through 2008 of which I never found and dont remember.
I have used a Spanish 7mm mauser, Remington 760, Savage 30 in 20ga, Ithaca deerslayer in 12ga, a Bear Whitetail Hunter, a Golden Eagle Evolution, a Ruger Redhawk in 44, a Marlin 336 in 30-30, a 10 point Wicked Ridge Invader and a 10 point Wicked Ridge Stealth FX4.
I loaded some rounds for my FR8 but am not sure if the old eyes can do irons.

I'm glad I took the time to document the successful times I went out.
 
I to have been keeping a Hunting Journal since 1976. I got into the habit of recording my outdoor activities as part of an Independent Study I had in college. I like to go back in my journals to reminisce past hunts. I total up my hours spent hunting and the game taken and firearm used at the end of each year for a handy reference.
 
No journals, but have several (hunting) scrapbooks/photo albums over the years, along with the old tags and licenses.....kids love looking thru them and hearing the stories.

I used to do something like this digitally. Mainly amusing those of my buddies who hadn't attended the hunt by writing rather comprehensive "reports", exaggerating pretty much everything way out of proportion, fabricating hidden agendas of people, hunting dogs, pets or even inanimate objects by the principle that everyone and everything is out there to get you. Intricate details of every game shot (hit or miss), with thoughts that have gone through my mind, or might have, to spice everything up (in)appropriately.

I thought I had lost them due to a computer hard drive crash but one of my buddies emailed me a hundred pages or so of these reports from his archive. I really hope my kids never get their hands on them. They'll never hunt another day in their lives if they take their content literally or seriously. :)

Still... nice chronicles and details I've forgotten long time ago.
 
Yes I have been recording the harvest record since the late 70's. Funny I can go back and read them and only a few I can't recall the hunt in my memory. There are some I could tell the story like it happened yesterday. I started it on a legal pad and just put the date, what I killed, the gun, yardage and weather conditions.
 
My quail hunting buddy kept a running list of our quail hunts, and daily kills on an old table top in the corner of his garage where we cleaned birds. He eventually tore down the old garage and built a new shed. He copied the notes down in a joirnal....but it lacked the appeal of the multi colored ink pen notes of a couple of young farmers in their 20s and 30s
Scouring the countryside with their dogs for quail.
