Little more down to earth today. Season is waning, hunting for meat in the freezer. Tree stumping it in buck or doe zone. Open oak/maple woods between 2 areas of heavy cover. Got the little guy here yesterday, thought I was bagging a mature doe. Couldn't see the itty bitty spikes on 3x as I threaded a bullet 60 yards through the trees. He's 11/2 yrs old, prime table venison, but not even a legal 3" spike. Weird.

One view of one stand. On top of a hill that was clear-cut about twenty years ago.
Three game trails come together here. It is where my game camera is.

You're up by me, been seeing much up there? My bucks were all nocturnal, had to drop down to Bovey hunter's choice area, old section of paper company land I used to hunt to put some meat in the freezer. Lots of does and small bucks moving around there the last few days, on and off with the wind/weather.

I do not want to de-rail this thread, can not figure out how to PM you. I'm north of Ely, close to the B-Dub. My hunting has been frustrating.......

This is from my stand in Northern Minnesota. I shot a buck to the right in the woods and brush.
These was near White Earth and Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. We usually fill out but when 3 for 5 this year. I wanted to go back when the weather warmed up but it's a long drive and no young guys stayed around to drag my deer if I shot another.
Got an invite to go to Cook but couldn't make it.

No conventional stands for us out west. We look at as much country as possible, find something, and try to move on it. We hunt the AZ high desert a lot

Man that’s the one thing I miss about Arizona! Planning on putting in for elk every year from here on out. Will be worth the drive from Ohio with the RV.

This is the terrain and view where our farm is located. Over 500+ wind turbines, corn fields and timber...deer are not bothered by them. Look closely where the two does are in the CRP, you'll notice a big buck chasing a doe in the cornfield beyond. Small doe was directly below stand this morning.

This is a view of where I was standing yesterday morning about 8am when this spike came wondering out of the brush. We got about an inch of snow overnight. Dropped right where he stood.
Took the 1st picture from where I stand he was sevenrty-two paces.. 20191124_080455.jpg

We have never killed a deer from it.

Give it time.
I have two ladder stands placed in the same place for years..........Picture of one in an earlier post. Never even saw a deer from either until yesterday, the last day of our firearms season. (A doe and fawn) Though my youngest son has shot deer from that stand. Game cameras show the deer come through, night and day, just not when I am in the stand. I must stink.;)
Sometimes being comfortable is just plain nice! :)
If you build it, they will come.

Have an Ameristep one man chair blind set up & staked down since late September in a nice travel corridor with a couple trail cams. This big boy is one of the "locals". Here he is Oct. 9th........ thumbnail.jpg Even had a picture of the nocturnal bears from the other cam back in October. Not getting anything on the cams since gun season began Nov. 16th. . It runs until Dec. 8th and the hunting activity drops off later in the season. Perhaps with less pressure one of us may be in that blind and make a late season score. Got two other blinds and one ladder stand. Sooner or later they may show up. Here's what was seen from that one man blind Fri. & Sat............
IMG_2763.JPG A couple inches of snow and not much else.
