Blackhawk Hunter edition

I have the hotts for one of these bisley framed .45Colt beauties.
I am thinking about a red dot or reflex sight for it.
Does anyone own a hunter edition?
Thoughts on the subject....?
It would be deer legal here.
They are nice, my dad has one in 41 mag. Only thing I don't like is if you mount a scope on it the gun is very nose heavy. Now a reflex mounted on the rear notch may be the bee's knees.

If you pick one in the bisley up shoot me a PM. I have some fantastic black walnut grips I can send you. They have a flare at the top and really lock your grip down and stop the gun from dropping down into your paml under heavy recoil. Love to see them go to a good home.

I have a long g term goal of a .45 colt hunter, and also a 22lr/mag hunter for small game. Both set up with like optics. Perhaps even sharing a chest rig ()sely on the .22 of course)

I love the Bisley Hunters, although mine have both been 44mag. I keep telling myself I’d like to mold up red and black carbon fiber grip panels, or have sets of red/black G10 cut for them, but alas, I expect I never will.

I wish they’d release a Bisley Hunter 454, really get the most out of the optic on top.

Have to admit that I regret not buying a Bisley Hunter in 41 mag when I saw one at a show. But then, I didn't need it anyway.

Leupold VX3 2-8x32 is my preferred handgun scope. Ultradot MatchDot behind that. Trijicon RMR dual illuminated with the 12moa triangle (sighted in with the point at a 6 o’clock hold).

My dad and brother both have fixed 2 powers. My brother had a variable on it, but upgraded scopes and went with the fixed power. If you're not used to scopes anything over 2 power can be really wonky and shows how much you actually wobble.

I got the smallest :) .17 Ruger Hunter with 4x Leupold LER . I've had it about 7 years, one of the first ones , I had to have it! It's great on Ground squirells to 125 yards , which is as good as I can hold. I killed a small coyote at 60 yards no problem but lost an equally well hit one at 80 yards that was bigger. I don't use it as a ranch gun since then.

I usually carry my .204 handi-rifle or AR in my combine, but my new Claas didnt have a good spot for it to ride. It does however, have a dandy leather pocket behind the seat that my old SSS with.22mag cylinder rode in all fall. I did have one opportunity for a coyote on a running shot. I emptied the cylinder and watched the coyote disappear into some standing corn, a half mile away.

Wrong color green my friend!

Sorry just can't help it!

I had a Bisley Vaquero in .44 Mag. for a while. The only time I shot it hunting was for a coup de gras shot on a 6 pointer. No scope on it, though. Nice handling gun,I liked the Bisley grip.

Mine is a .44 Magnum Bisley. It is good for 4" groups at 50 yards, which apparently is not very good compared to most of the reviews I have read. I am forced to use lead-free bullets where I hunt, so have not done much load development with the few bullets available. The trigger is typical Ruger in that it is a little heavy and a little creepy. With one leg of the trigger spring removed from the post it is acceptable enough that I have never gotten around to having a proper trigger job done.

I have it fitted with a Leupold 4x scope, which is a mistake. Vignetting is a significant problem. I keep meaning to replace it with a 2x but it's pretty far down my list - I really don't hunt very much. I may put a dot on it instead, as I have several that aren't doing anything at the moment. I do, though, like the added weight of the scope, as it makes the recoil very manageable.

The short version is that if I was in the market for a relatively inexpensive yet high-quality hunting revolver to be used with optics, I would buy a Bisley Hunter in .45 Colt. I wish that caliber had been available when I bought mine.

One of the best options if you want to mount an optic. I just prefer them mounted over the frame so the SRH gets the nod from me.

Have to agree with over the frame mount myself. Those hunter's are super nose heavy with a scope. IMO if I wanted a single action Ruger for hunting with 45 colt loads id grab up the super Blackhawk 454 and put a reflex sight with a raptor mount. Or use a weigand mount like this one . Assuming it holds up well to recoil. But that's only because I don't have a decent local Smith for a drill and tap mount.

With that said I'm on the prowl for Black Friday deals to snag up a vortex venom reflex to mount on my 4 5/8 Blackhawk in 45 colt for hunting.

I'm torn with the hunter edition and the. 454 bisley in 4⅝(my favorite barrel length)
That scope mount would let me mount an optic to my current 7½" blackhawk. 45c.

My son and I each have standard new model Blackhawks, his 7 1/2, mine 4 5/8 in 45 Colt. Not the hunter models but strong and accurate. I load the RCBS 45-255KT over Elmer's load of 2400 and get a little over 1100 fps. Full penetration on our only deer so far. PM for actual load. Should be perfect for the Hunter.

I didnt elaborate much on the subject but I do have a 7½inch .45colt blackhawk.

I was using this gun back when Illinois had a 'handgun only antlerless season'. @PapaG aand some others remember this..probably early 90s-ish.
My reason for the blackhawk hunter was mostly for the ease of mounting optics, and I wanted to try a bisley grip.
@MidRoad has me rethinking my strategy with the wiegland mount. Those thick blackhawk sights just about hide a deer at 75yds....I want to try a red dot and see how it works
My blackhawk is pretty accurate with my own 255cast/unique loads. I may just buy the mount and a red dot for next season. I already have a 300grain lnfp mould that I'm itchin to use on something.
