Ohio 2019 Gun season kicks off December 2 and I have 9 days off Starting November 31. I just ordered a Beartooth cheek riser with ammo loops for my Marlin 1895 and Butler creek caps for my Nikon 2-7 that sits atop my 44mag Handi rifle. Picking up some 240gr XTP bullets to load for that tonight and load 50rds of 300gr Hornady HP for the 1895. I need to find some Blackhorn 209 and .452 sabots for my CVA Optima pro and I am good to go. Need to sight all 3 guns in this weekend and fix a couple tree stands. Orange gear has been airing out for several weeks and will be washed this weekend and aired again till Monday morning. I love to deer hunt with a variety of weapons but gun week is something I love. Nothing like waiting until the last minute huh?

Well crap! Just installed a bear creek cheek riser on the marlin and seems a bit too hard for me. Mounted rings on my Handi rifle and the scope won’t clear the hammer for good eye relief. I noticed the Marlin scope was a hair crooked so lined it up and probably have to make some turret adjustments. Still need to load for both rifles and I’ll be ready to roll.

Well Ive got 7 days to get all this done. Last night I found out that some of my vacation time maybe shorted because one of my employees daughters from out of state is coming home next week and he is pretty much taking the time off regardless if its approved or not. Scouted a new property and it looks pretty good. Lots of tracks, rubs and overturned leaves.

Tomorrow is the big day! 44Mag with 240gr XTP and 45-70 300gr HP all loaded and ready to roll. Climber has been airing outside for 2 weeks, washing orange clothing tonight and hitting the hay. Ill be in the tree an hour before sunrise trying to catch them slipping back to the bedding area. I mainly buck hunt up until gun week and then if its brown and mature its down.

Good luck tomorrow.

Pat's right it was pretty small but should be real tender.

From that pic you can hardly tell I'm a red head. My age is starting to show.
Oh well I still had a couple of firsts. First deer with my m11, first with 223, and first with a Leupold scope.
Thanks again pat.

Well no opening day for me. I have private farms but they get a lot of trespassers and gun hunters and someone usually walks in on me at some point so I was going to hunt with a couple buddies on their lease but he canceled on me today. I thought about going out but I can’t stand when someone walks in 15min before legal light and sets up 50yards from you.

That really sucks, that's why most people close up their property. One highly productive place where we use to hunt in Pennslvania was closed up because one jackass started nailing up home made tree stands and homemade ladders. We kiled a bunch of deer there over the years.
When out hunting I. Take pictures of tree stands that I happen upon.
