Weaver K6 on a varmint gun?

Nice gun. I would like to use the varmint gun for Hunter Benchrest and understand that 6x is the max magnification.

I like FP 6x on a flatter shooting hunting rifle. One of my family members has an older 98 Mauser 6mm Rem conversion with a Leupold M8 6X on it. He said it originally had a 3-9X on not and he never took it off the 6x setting so when he wanted that scope for a different purpose he just replaced it with the fixed 6X.

I had an old, blued, El Paso Weaver K6 on a varmint gun for a few years in the late 1990's - early 2000's. It was on a 22 Hornet and it worked great for anything at Hornet distances, in my experience. The gun itself is a Savage 23-D from the latter 1930's that had its original Wollensak 4x scope taken off in the mid 1960's when the weaver got put on it. When I got the gun I left the Weaver on for a few years and then put the original scope back on, ( the original scope & mounts came with it when I got the gun), to restore the gun to its original 1930's configuration. Still have that K6 here in the man cave and the optics are crystal clear and no other problems. It's still sitting in an old, vintage pair of Weaver rings. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on something else but I think it would be cool for an older gun that someone wants to be "period correct". I think the 6x makes a great varmint scope, especially on a rimfire rifle. I had an old Weaver 6x on an equally old Winchester 69a, and it was a lights-out combo for me. Killed lots of small game and miscellaneous varmints at ranges further than I care to admit. The best part about the Weaver scopes, to me, is the super fine crosshairs. I have an old Weaver K2.5 on a 572 Fieldmaster right now, and a K4 on Pap's old Mossberg 251c, and absolutely love the crosshairs on both. The old Weavers work so well that I'm looking for another K6 for my BRNO #2, but I can't find one at what I consider a "reasonable" price.

So yes, I would definitely put that K6 on the 700. They were the "original" varmint scope back in the day, I can't imagine why it wouldn't do just as good today.

The Weaver K6 scope is built like a tank. I've got a pair of them, both on beater AR-15's, a 16" Bushmaster in 5.56 and a 14.5 " PSA in 6.8spc. I'm very happy with them.
