Have a Glock 17 inbound, and should be here by Monday. Not really a Glock guy, but I got a Factory Rebuild for $325. The comments and a Google search say it's basically a brand new gun? This will be the first Glock I fired or owned in almost a decade.

I want to switch out the stock plastic sites ASAP. It will basically be a range gun, so I'm not interested in night sights or defensive (Big Dot) type of sights. Any suggestions other than Dawnson Precision?

What, you don’t like the factory dovetail protectors? ;)

Trijicon makes a good night sight for glocks imo

I have experience with the Warren Tactical plain set.

They are good for what they are, but if youre used to sights you can see on all backgrounds, I think youll find them lacking. For your basic, bullseye, 6 o'clock hold on that type of target, and youll be fine.

The only problem I had with them was, against anything "dark" or with a broken background, and I lose the sights/sight picture.

I prefer the factory three-dot night sights or the same made by Meprolight, or Trijicon (all green). They are a 24-hour sight, against any background, and the dots instantly give both horizontal and vertical conformation. Fast and easy to shoot with.

Up until recently, the Mepro's were my preference over the Trijicon's, but the last set of Trijicon's I got, give a slightly better "traditional" sight picture, as they either have a wider notch, or narrower front sight, maybe both, and they give a sight picture with more light on the sides.

Ive been using the three dot type sights since they first showed up, and actually use the dots more than I do a traditional sight picture when I shoot. At least out to around 15 yards.

Heinie makes a good rear also. Pricey though. I have a ledge rear and warren tactical front on one of mine. I prefer square notch plain black rear with fiber optic front.

I have Warren/Sevigny Competition on my G17, fibre optic front, plain rear.
A friend just got Dawson Competition, fibre optic front and rear for her G34 - against all expert advice - and is delighted with them. Beat me at GSSF.

I have Trijicon night sights on my three Glocks. They've always worked very well for me.

Glock makes metal factory replacement sights. If you dont like the U outline rear and dot front you can use black paint on them?

A lot of the rebuild guns have steel sights on them. Before you buy something, be sure that what's already on the gun isn't acceptable to you.

If they do turn out to be plastic and you want an inexpensive replacement, you can put Glock steel sights on the gun for around $35.

Actually, for range guns, I sometimes leave the plastic rear sight in place and just change out the front sight. I've never had issues with the plastic rear sights (and you probably won't either unless you practice one-handed malfunction drills) but the plastic front sights can loosen up--especially if you do any holster work.

I've recently seen a post from a guy who turns the factory plastic rear sight around so he has a black rear notch instead of the goal post rear and keeps the front white dot.

I vote Trijicon night sights...... Wasn't happy with those that came on my Glock 19 which is mostly used at the range. LGS had a bunch of aftermarket Glock sights in stock and I got to look at them personally. Shop owner's also a retired County Sheriff and he recommended them highly but my eyes still made the final decision.

Meprolight/Tru Dots are what I choose first. Big white outline around tritium dots.
